I am searching for information on (Rev). Wiley Leggett and first wife Susan Allen. Susan was born approx. 1818 and died 10/1851. Wiley then married Lyddora (Liddora, Lida, Lidia, Lydia ?) have found it several ways) Sheffield in 1852. Lyddora's father's name was John I believe. She would have been born around 1825 if the census info is correct. I have considerable information on Wiley after 1848 but none prior and no info on either wife. Any help appreciated.

History of Magnolia Lodge #86---Early County, Ga.---Rev. Wiley S. Leggett was a charter member of this lodge, chartered in 1849....A Pastor of First Baptist Church which was probably Macedonia Baptist at the time(where the City Cemetery is now) in Blakely.
(He also pastored Bethel Baptist Church on the Ft. Gaines Hwy out of Blakely...Northwest) The Magnolia History reads that he married twice, it only mentions his second wife, Miss Lydodora Sheffield, daughter of John Sheffield. He married her Nov. 30, 1851. Mr. Leggett afterward moved to Louisiana.......Wiley was the first Chaplain of Magnolia Lodge...........

per Joan Herndon, Corresponding Sec. 2002 for the Early Co. Historical Society.......hherndon@alltel.net
We have Volumes I and II and III available for sale of Early County History.....contact me for more info.....There is also a History of the Bethel Association in the Library in Blakely that has histories of Pastors of the Bethel Association. Lookups are 5.00 per time........JH

I was just reviewing old postings and found where you had sent me a picture of the Leggett's and Smithson's circa 1930. For some reason I never got the email on this. It was in 2002. Do you have any further info on them? I do appreciate you sending the pic. Wish I had found it sooner.

Thank you,
Lynn

There is a Wily Legget on the 1840 Randolph County, GA census. Right next to him is John Leggett. Also, on the 1880 Grant Parish, LA census, you will find William S. Leggett, b. 1818, GA. His wife is Ledora Legget. His occupation is listed as "Preacher". I believe this was Rev. Wiley S. Legget(t).
