Bob, Thank you so much for the info on Alex TUrner. He is my husband's grandfather and he knew very little about him. I had tracked him down to St. Augustine in 1940 ( at least, I thought that was him ) but did not know who he married after Sarah or where he died. Are you related to this family ?

I am not familiar with a place called "Lowndes" in Crisp County; perhaps you are referring to Lowndes County which is significantly south of Crisp County? If, indeed, your query is for Crisp County, who is the person for whom you are searching? Someone on the list may be able to locate it for you free of charge.

Thanks Mike. I did make it down to the cemetery earlier this year to look for them. We got lost getting there and ended up finding the cemetery at almost dusk. Two of us walked and looked at as many head stones as possible before it got too dark to see them, but we never found George or Sally. I hope to make it down there again in the fall. It's difficult to walk long for me, but I am determined to find them before I can't do it. Wish someone out there had a map of the place and could get me right to it. I have requests on FindAGrave.com to take pictures for other people of graves they can't get to due to living too far away & I run into this problem each time I try to capture a picture at a cemetery

Thanks for all the replies. I will have to look at this again later. All my info is going on word of mouth. Or what I have found on-line at Ancestry.com I also think I posted the name of the cemetery wrong in my original post. I'm looking back at some work sheets from some yrs ago my Grandmother helped me fill out. The name of the cemetery is Arabi-Antioch Cemetery Hwy 41 Cordele,GA So at this point I'm not sure what direction to go. I'm not sure where he died either. This search keeps sending me for loops it seems. I will come back here and post more as I proceed forward. Thanks for all your replies.

Neither George nor Sally show up in a Find a Grave search. The cemetery appears to be an old one, so there may not be anyone to contact for a list of people who are buried there (you may want to contact town hall to check).

I've walked through many cemeteries in all kinds of weather looking for ancestors--it's part of the fun of researching!
Beeks, Odums, Terrells, Striplings, Durhens, Simmons

I am a direct descendant of the Beeks. One of my ggaunts, Rachel Beeks married an Odums however, I've had difficulty locating the name of her husband. At some juncuture they even lived in Pulaski Co. Rachel may have been born approx 1850.

One of her sisters, Charity Beeks Stripling, owned a grocery store in Cordele.

Rachel later migrated to NJ. The store was taken over by Johnnie B Beeks, her nephew.

I'm looking for any information that can be located on the Beeks, Odums, Terrells, Strilpings, possibly the Durhens. I've amassed a decent amount but anything prior to 1870 has proven extremely difficult. Also, there are many instances in the family where children were raised by relatives other than their parents and over the years, the lines of the actual bilogical relationship seems to have been blurred. In other words, I have multiple instances of cousins insisting they are siblings. Or, there is such a huge span in the number of years a woman is pregnant that cousins become aunt and uncle out of deference.

Randolph Beeks (1825 - )and Frances Boyd (1838 - )married and gave bith to: Asora, Charity, Emma, Harrin, Rachel, Henry, Israel, Randolph, Nora and Isaiah.

My direct descendant Isaiah Beeks (1882-1970) married Sarah Simmons (1883-1956) and gave birth to: Doll, Charity, (Mamie) Jean, (Mary) Frances, Isaiah, Eddie, Sarah and Rachel. All of these children were born in Cordele but later migrated to the Newark, NJ-area.

I am concentrating on Crisp, Dooly and Houston Counties.

Thanks for any assistance!

Sara Ray Brooks
kiaray22@yahoo.com
973-342-1457
