I am stuck on a Gann lineage of Cobb County, and I am hoping someone might be able to help me with it.

According to my records, my 2nd great uncle, Nathan Thornton Gann, was married twice. His first wife, Susan Charlotte Pheniah Brooks (b. 1848), had been married before and family history says that her first husband was also a Gann, a (1st?) cousin of Nathan that died as a POW during the Civil War.

Everyone seemed to think that this first husband's name was John Newton; however, Bible records from the Brooks family seem to show her marriage was to a Georgia N. Gann in 1863. We believe she had a son, John Edgar Gann, in 1864.

Susan married Nathan in 1866 and in 1868 he remarried to Nancy Jane Kirksey Snelling.

Any help on John Edgar and especially the lineage of his father would be appreciated.
