William M Gunter and his wife are buried in Clayton County.
I believe she was Rebeckah Peel. Are there any descendants
of this couple on the mail list? If so or should anyone have knowledge of this couple, I would like to hear from you

Thanks,Thelma

In the "History of Clayton Co.GA, 1821-1983"
Mention is made of William M. Gunter on pg. # 152.
In talking about Hebron Primitive Baptist Church a man named Luther James Brown recalls;
"Among the pastors that followed Rev.James P. Lyon, the first Pastor of that Church were Rev. Goddard,........(etc) & RevIL.L. Gunter, another great minister and the son of William M. Gunter, the man who gave the two acres of land on which the church was built."
There are many Gunters in Henry County as well, you might try that area, because Clayton Co. was at one time a part of Henry Co.
There is also, mention of Gunter on Page 6 and 46. I will try to get that info. to you later.
I am indirectly related to Gunter's through my Campbell line.
Also, my mother was a Shields from Clayton and Henry counties.

Ministers GUNTER, OXFORD, LYON

In your msg about GUNTER of CLAYTON co. GA you mention some ministers -- GUNTER and LYON. I have a letter dated Dec. 1918 from Sherriff P. Wesley DERRICK of Atlanta to my grandfather, James Jefferson THOMAS of CARROLL co., which says, in part: "I often think of the times I used to sit under the drippings of the sanctuary at old Lebanon and hear old GUNTER, Oxford and LYON read the thirteenth chapter of John..." etc. Derrick is referring to the Lebanon Primitive Baptist church in Hampton (Henry co.); he ended up being buried in the cem. there. Can you identify for me positively who exactly "GUNTER, Oxford and LYON" were? Do you know if any of those ministers you mentioned preached at Old Lebanon? And also, what in the world are the "drippings of the sanctuary"? Thanks very much for any help.

Do you have information regarding this Wm. M. Gunter as to who his children were. Is it possible that he had a daughter by the name of Dulcie Ann Gunter that married a John M. Wilson (who I believe died in the civil war) and Dulcie later married a George M. Hendon (Clayton Co.)?

I am looking for information on Dulcie and her daughter Maldona Wilson. Would appreciateany information at all.

I just read your 25 April 2002 message re children of WILLIAM M.GUNTER and REBECCA PEEL GUNTER. I am a direct descendent of their daughter Mary Jane whom I believe married PATTERSON K. GIBSEN. I do not have a marriage date butshe was born 11 May 1836 and died in Sept 20 1911. PATTERSON K.GIBSON died in the Battle of The Wilderness in the Civil War on May 7 1864. He was born Jan 9 1833. They had a daughter ADELIA GIBSON THOMPSON who is my great grandmother. I know very little about any of them. Were Rebecca's parents William PEEL and Nancy Grey PEEL? I am anxious to find any information on this line.
