I have a lot of circumstantial information about Daniel but nothing concrete. For instance, I have abstracts of a number of deeds with his name on them information about several headright grants. If you are interested in any of these, I'll be glad to send them to you.

His obituary in Georgia Revolutionary War Soldiers' Graves, Vol. 1, pg. 128 says he served as a lieutenant in Capt. Micajah Williamson's company of the Georgia Troops commanded by Colonel Elijah Clarke. He was wounded in the right knee at Augusta on September 14, 1820 and later received a pension because of that wound.

He was also named the first coroner in Clarke Co. in 1801, according to a courthouse marker.

My interest is in any connection between Daniel and Edward, who was my gggggrandfather (I think that's the right number of g's). Edward as a Justice of the Peace in Clarke Co. and later became a lawyer and judge in Fayette Co. where he moved after his wife died.

I'm searching for any intestate or other estate records that might establish a relationship but haven't had any luck so far. I'll keep your messge in my research file and let you know if I find anything.

Edward Conner b.1793, who married Rebecca Cook in Clarke Co., GA, 12 Apr 1813 was my GGGGrandfather. The information that I have shows that he was a lawyer in Athens, Clarke Co. When he and his son-in-law, Thomas H. Stephens (my GGGrandfather)joined the Confederate Army, Rebecca and their daughter, Mary Ann C. Stephens, moved to Fayetteville, Fayette Co., GA. My GreatGrandmother, Sarah was born there to Mary Ann and Thomas 27 May 1863. Thomas died 30 Sept. 1863 in Savannah, GA.,while still in the Army. He was buried in Fayetteville. Edward Conner returned there after the War. He died in 1869.

I'm reposting this just in case that you didn't receive my 3/21/04 reply. Your GGgrandfather, Edward Conner Stephens, was the brother of my Greatgrandmother, Sarah Tommie Stephens. I'm still digging around into all the information that I can find. I feel that somehow Daniel Conner is kin to Edward. I think that maybe as his father or at lease an uncle. Edward was born in 1793. Daniel was commissioned Dec. 31, 1801 as the first Coroner for Clarke Co., GA, when it was created Dec.5, 1801.
Do you have any information that you can share with me concerning the Conner family of Oconee/Clarke Co., GA? Or can anyone else add a link to Edward and Daniel Conner? Joyce

I feel the same as you, that there is a connection between Daniel Conner and Edward Conner. But as yet, I have not been able to find the connection. I have not been able to find a Will by Daniel Conner or any probate records for Daniel Conner in Clarke Co,GA. I have found very little else about Daniel Conner...land records, revolutionary war summary and some tax records... is about the extent of what I Have at the moment.

If anyone is still interested in Daniel Conner, here is some more information. All of the prior threads on this Clarke Co. GA board concerning him serving in the GA Militia of the Army of the Revolution is correct. Daniel (b: 1739) married in 1774 to a widow, Martha Bailey Craft (b: 1750) with one son, Daniel. They had 4 children together : John, Elizabeth, Robert Henry and Edward Z. Conner. Daniel Conner received a head water grant in 1784 for land in Wilkes Co. In 1793 this part of Wilkes became Warren county. He then received a Land Grant in Jackson Co. in 1799 to where they moved. In 1801 this land became Clarke Co., GA , were Daniel died 30 Aug 1837. His wife Martha died 13 Apr 1842.
