I have been working on this mystery about 1 and half years, and it still has not been solved. In the 1850 Cherokee, GA census there is Wiley Hood b. 1809 SC, wife Margaret, children Larkin b. 1835, Martha b. 1837, Mary b. 1839, George b. 1840, James b. 1844, Marion b. 1846, and John b. 1849. Then in the 1860 Cobb, GA. census there is only Wiley, son J.J. (James Paul), son M.D. (Marion Dallas), son J.S. (John Smith), and daughter M.A. (Milly). The older children Larkin and George in other records now go by Payne. I found Larkin listed as L.B. Payne with wife Elizabeth in Cobb Co. I have seen somewhere reference to a Bible belonging to Marion Dallas Hood listing Larkin, Martha, Mary and George as Payne, and the others as Hood. I have to assume this might be a 2nd marriage for Wiley and Margaret. On Ancestry I found a very general marriage record for Wiley Hood and Margaret??? in Georgia, no specific date. Where else could I find a database of marriage records(or does someone have means of looking this up)? Maybe the marriage occurred around 1844, this is where the Payne children end and Hood children begin. Maybe both Wiley and Margaret had kids from other marriages. Help!
