My gg grandmother's 1884 marriage record in Savannah gives her name as "Miss Charity Higgs". Many of the marriage records from the same data base do not have the word "Miss" in front of the women's name. Does "Miss" mean she was not previously married at the time of the marriage? Or does it mean something else?
