I have been told that some small towns in Florida disappeared through the years. I am looking for some place that is spelled "Cent(u)each" or so. It appears on the back of a painting that I bought. I am trying to locate a cemetery/burial site for a distant cousin, Daniel McCarty Fitzhugh THORNTON, born 10 Nov 1800 Caroline Co., Virginia, died 12 Oct 1865 Florida. All I've been able to find out about where he was buried was on several sites...Micauba, Florida, nothing else. I haven't been located the area on the internet yet, so was turning to this site to see if someone knew either where Daniel is buried or where Micauba, Florida is. Penal System in Florida During Late 1880's

Need help in finding what would have happened to a “black sheep” in the family between 1886 and 1890. Robert Marshall was a post master in Dade City, Hernando (Pasco) County from about 1884-1886 when he left wife and kids behind and embezzled some money order funds and apparently went to Pensacola. He was arrested in Pensacola (article in the New York Times) and that is last anyone can find of him. I have contacted Tallahassee and they could find no record of him in the system. I have contacted Hernando County and they could find no records. Pasco County, I have had no contact, no replies from queries. Likewise no replies from Pensacola. Does anyone know what the penal system would have been like during that time in Florida? I would assume that (embezzling postal funds) would have been a federal crime.

If you don't know a county name or correct spelling, use what you have and do a google search, you will come up with the correct spelling and wikipedia will lead you to county names. but you may want to try to find obits on the parents to see if names of children are mentioned...

His parents were William Martin Fox (1904-1957) he born in Cocke County Tenn and Ruth Violet Brady (1907-1979) she was born in Webb City, MO. According to his mom's obituary he was living in Atlanta in 1979, but that's all I know. I'm looking for dates of birth, marriage and possibly death.

I do not find that she made any request for a Florida Civil War Widow's pension. They can be made even if the soldier served in another state's unit.
