regretfully the image for the 1910 census is greatly distorted and unreadable (I have reported) but she was living in Vernon, Washington so this would be the place to start looking - being in the UK - I have no idea what high schools are in that area.. but year books etc must be available - also, I would think that whatever school she taught in would have records

the 1900 census, which confirms her birth month & year just states that her dad John (APR 1859) was a farmer & mum JERRY (MAR 1867) had 7 children all living & the family were at
Residence : Precinct 6, Point Washington & Precinct 8, Millers Ferry & Precinct 12, Greenhead & Precinct 14, West Bay, Washington, Florida

the 1930 census, again, Oscar is not employed & shown as a veteran of WW1 and it states she was a Teacher in Public School

I am trying to find info on Mary Esther Strickland who lived her life in Ebro, FL and married 3 times. 1st time to Leonard Russell in 1937 in Bay County, FL, 2nd time to Rivers Buford Faison in 1941 in Washington County, FL, and 3rd time to Cecil Raley and she was married to him at time of her death.

Her parents were Thomas Strickland who married his step-sister Effie McKinney between 1919-1922 in Walton County, FL

Mary Esther's grandparents were James P. Strickland who married 3 times. The 1st time to Mary Frances Morrell 1876, married 2nd time to Fanny Kelly, and married the 3rd time to Martha Miller 1895. Marriages took place in Washington County, FL.

I especially need the children of James P. Strickland and which wife the children went to.

Mary Esther's great-grandparents were John Strickland, born 1800 in North Carolina and Charolotte Reese born 1807 in Georgia. Both died in Alabama.

Floyd Jackson is my GG Grandfather. He is buried at a cemetery in Washington Co Florida...Rock Hill Church.

I know of several male decedents from the the Thomas George lineage.

Back in the 60's, more than likely the funeral homes used log/ledger books. If the funeral home has changed hands, those log/ledger books could have gone to the new owners, or donated to the local historical society, archives center, etc..

I just checked the Rock Hill Cemetery on the Washington GenWeb site. The cemetery survey was done in 1999. Your father's name is not listed. Sadly, he may have been buried in an unmarked grave.

Have you tried to get a death certificate? It should have the burial place. The Florida Department of Health charges only $5.00 for a death certificate. Here is the listing I found in the Florida Death Index on Ancestry. Is this your father? Note that the death year is 1971, not 1966.

Sarah Emeline Raley, 99, of Bonifay, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, in Bonifay. Mrs. Raley was born on September 4, 1909 in Washington County to Harvey and Annie Elizabeth (Parish) Hinson. She was the great granddaughter of Andrew Elton Williams. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Harrison.

Mrs. Raley is survived by one son, Lamar Raley of Bonifay; two daughters: Sereta Crooms of Cuthbert, Georgia, and Gloria Baragona and husband George of Tallahassee; one sister, Orene Owens of Chipley; two sisters-in-law: Blondell Hinson of Chipley and Ruth Hinson of St. Mary’s, Georgia; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, June 5, in the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Raley and Rev. Henry Clay Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, with Brown Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

That is my father and I did send for his death cert which is how I found the name of the church. I also was able to track down 3 step brothers that I had never met and they gave me some information but they couldn't remember the name of the church or where he was buried in the cemetery. When I was down there we did find the church by asking some of the local people and 1 person knew and gave us directions. I just can't locate where in that cemetery he is buried.

That was my next stop during that trip. The name of the church was Rock Hill Baptist, but they said they didn't keep records on where people were buried in the cemetery. The funeral home buries him but they don't keep records on where they buried him? Made no sense to me either.
Does anyone have another idea where I can records on the burial plot?

Yes I have talked with you several times. When I was down there I tried to contact you again but you were out of town. I will contact the monument copany and get them to check on it. Thank you so much for your help. Hopefully I'll finally be able to put a headstone on his grave site.

Thank you for the suggestion but I've all ready ask the funeral home. I was told that they don't keep those kind of records. The cemetery he was buried at would have the records. Unfortunatly those records were lost in a fire.

I believe you are the one I talked to on the phone several times. After the rain softened the ground, I took a probe and worked it through the area you thought most likely. There is a space about the size of a grave that is soft like the clay has been dug out. If you get someone from the vault company to verify a grave is there then we could be reasonably sure it is him. I tried to call you but did not get an answer.
