A lot of the panhandle news was covered by the Pensacola Journal.

I recommend checking the University of West Florida (they have an excellent genealogical selection). Also, I know the University of Florida at Gainesville has some of the older newspapers.

Perhaps even for something of this magnitude, you might even contact the Dothan Eagle. Their newspapers are on microfilm in Dothan, and you must view them there for their older issues.

I hope this helps some.

You might try the Chipley Library.

I am trying to find a list of the names of the sixteen men from the Cook Bayou and East Bay area who died in the Hurricane of 1894. This area was part of Washington County at that time (it is now Bay County). Bay County does not have any Washington County newspapers of this time--does anyone know if--or where--early newspapers may be found which might carry a listing of these men? I would appreciate any help.

Surnames: Cook, Dauphin, Barber, McCullough, all of NW FLa
UWF's Special Collections section has newspapers from the Holmes / Washington County area from before the turn of the century ... I do not remember the date span but I know it was quite a bit.

Hello,

I am researching Dauphins in France, Canada, and USA. My oldest known ancestor is Etienne Dauphin, wife Julienne Richard, born in Poitiers, France. Would like to exchange information on Dauphins.
