Find Bryant Johnson on the 1850 and 1860 Covington County, AL censuses:

Byrant - born about 1815 GA
Sarah - born about 1820 GA
Josiah N. - born about 1834 GA
Martha E. - born about 1838 GA
George W. - born about 1842 GA
Elizabeth - born about 1844 GA
Micajah - born about 1845 GA
Melissa Ann - born about 1848 GA
Sarah - born about 1850 AL
John H. - born about 1853 AL
Susan A. - born about 1855 AL
Samuel H. - born about 1860 AL

Find the widow Sarah Johnson on the 1870 and 1880 Walton County, FL censuses.

I can deduce that Melissa married Thomas Miller and she died in Walton County in Jan. 1923 and buried at Cluster Springs.

John H. married Mary Frances ?? and he died 1914 in Walton County.

Samuel H. maried Mary J. Truett. He died Jan. 3, 1930 in Gadsden County, FL, but buried in Defuniak Springs, Walton County.

On the 1850 census, Bryant Johnson is only a few households away from William and Polly Johnson, whom I feel sure are my ggg-grandparents and are possibly the parents of Bryant.

Would love to hear from anyone researching this family.

Now be careful, for there is another Bryant Johnson born about 1809 NC on the 1850 Early County, GA census & the 1860 & 1880 Conecuh County, AL census & on the 1870 Santa Rosa County, FL census, who also has a son named Micajah born about 1851 GA. This 2nd Bryant, about the same age, son with same name, and living in roughly the same area, led me on a WILD goose chase for a while. Would make you think that somehow the 2 Bryants are connected....

Blessings,

Ken Johnson

Andy:

You mention that your g-grandparents were Thomas Miller & Melissa Johnson. I have an interest in Melissa. Her father was Bryant Johnson (married to Sarah?). Find him (with daughter Melissa and other family members) on the 1850 & 1860 Covington County, AL censuses. He was born about 1815 in GA. On the 1850 census, he is only a few households away from William and Polly Johnson. I feel sure that William and Polly were my ggg-grandparents. Would love to chat.

Allie F Nelson has headstone in Hatcher: b.31Dec1870 d.12June1934. She has 2 sons buried there with her; Amos & Theodore also. However, I am trying to determine if Allie F was married prior to Z W Nelson b.12June1868 d.16July1916 buried: Black Creek Cemetery, Freeport, FL. Susie Rebecca Wheeler & twin Ed were listed as step children to Z W Nelson. Want help finding if a father is documented for Susie/Ed Wheeler or did they just assume Nelson surname? Also trying to find out what "F" stands for in Allie F Nelson & if she was married prior to Z W NELSON?

Thank you. I found Allie F Nelson before I posted but wasn't sure about her husband. Did not know what "F" stood for either or if it was her maiden name initial? I am most interested if there was a documented father for Susie Rebecca and her twin Ed Wheeler/Nelson; perhaps illegitimate (?). I read that the Walton Cty Cthse burned down in 1885 & probably lost records that might apply.

Thanks again

Hi Wayne. Just came across your info on Walton Co. settlers(?)My greatgrandfather was Aaron Young, born in Ga. @1831.
Married Lydia Louvenia Cantaline in Pike or Covington Co Al. 1850 census shows an Aron Young age 19, living with parents in Dist. 3 Walton Co. Haven't found anything on him since. He had 2 children, Melvina who married a McKee and William who married Mary Jane Musgrove.
The McKees in Walton Co. descended from Melvina Young and John Richard MeKee.
Do you have any more info on Aron Young?
Thanks.
Happy@fairpoint.net
I am looking for obituaries of this couple of Defuniak Springs.

Floyd Chester Hansen, b. 8 JAN 1894 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan, d. 8 FEB 1988 in Walton, Florida, resided 1932 in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio, resided 1945 in Dade, Florida, resided 1963 in Pontiac Springs, Florida.

He married Glenna Pauline Riffle, married 11 SEP 1919 in Grand Haven, Michigan, b. 2 DEC 1896 in Indiana, (daughter of Jason M Riffle and Alda Mary Potter) d. 7 NOV 1986 in Defuniak Springs, Walton, Florida, census 1900 - 1910 in Richland, Fountain, Indiana.

Floyds parents and siblings:
Christian Martinius Hansen, b. 1 OCT 1863 in Kragerø, Telemark, Norway (son of Nils Hansen and Johanna Olson) and d. 24 JUL 1937 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan, census 1870 - 1930 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan, buried 28 JUL 1937 in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
He married Mary Florence Mcneese, married 26 SEP 1889 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan, b. 7 MAY 1867 in Mosheim, Greene, Tennessee, (daughter of James Mckendry Mcneese and Sara Elizabeth Ellis) d. 13 MAY 1935 in Muskegon, Michigan, resided 1900 - 1930 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan. Children : Oliver Emond, Niles McKendra, Floyd Chester, Harvey Johan, Carol Christen, Hilda Marie (Curtis)

I found this bio:
Floyd Chester Hansen was born in Holland in 1894, and attended Maple Street School through eighth grade. Possessed of an adventurous spirit, he left Holland in 1914 and went to sea as a cook aboard the USS Justin, and later, on the M/S Kronprince Gustav Adolf, one of the first ships to travel through the newly built Panama Canal. After his time at sea, Floyd traveled through the Midwest working as a cook until the outbreak of the war. He enlisted in June 1917 and became a cook with the 354th Ambulance Company at Fort Riley, Kan. He rose to the rank of mess sergeant for the entire company, but transferred to the 314th Sanitation Train as a stretcher-bearer to get to France. Sanitation Trains were the medics of the American Expeditionary Forces, gathering the wounded and stabilizing them at the front before they were sent to the rear. Attached to the 89th Division, the 314th Sanitation Train participated in the major United States battles on the Western Front.
Floyd's letters home describe life stateside and on the western front, reflecting the desire shared by many in the U.S. Army to get "over there" and participate in winning the war, as well as the tempered attitude they acquired as they experienced the war they had wanted to be a part of. Disembarking in France in early July, Floyd and the rest of the 314th Sanitary Train began additional training to prepare for moving up to the front, which began on Aug. 5 when the division occupied trenches north of Toul, a position on the St. Mihiel salient. Acclimation to trench warfare was swift as the German army sought to test the quality of these new troops.
"The Boches come over to pay us a visit three or four times a day," Floyd wrote on Aug. 12, "and during the night he sticks around just about all the time, but we are getting used to it and when he gets too close we hike for our dugout but for myself I'd rather be in an air raid any day than a gas attack…" "Like many soldiers writing home, Floyd is understating here."

Children:

i.	James Riffle Hansen, b. 12 APR 1926 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan,( d. 14 JUN 1967 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada. Uncertain data. )

ii.	Patricia K Hansen, b. 1932 in Indiana, resided 1945 in Dade, Florida.

Thank You in advance.

Are you related to the Colvin family of Pensacola who came from the Pt. Washington area in Walton County? If so you should have a relative called Bradford Colvin and Bluford Colvin who lived in the Pt. Washington and Vernon area of Walton and Washington Counties. If so we are cousins.
Hi. It's me again!! I just found who you are. Are you and I kin through the Farnam's?? Anyway, our (??) grandfather was one of Oliver's children who was born in Florida. As far as I know, he and Nan, his last wife (who we heard so many tales about!!,) were still married and living in either Okaloosa or Walton County when he died. I know their son Winford, died in Cantonment and was buried in Baraccus Military Cemetery in Pensacola. His last wife was Nancy Katy (or Katy Nancy) Wise. They always spoke of her as "Nan", and they only had the one son. I think Charlie died in Walton County, and ironically, that is the county where Mary Ellen lived, remarried and died. Seems like I found somewhere that he died in 1931, but I'd have to look it up. Anyway, you can contact me personally. BTW. I have a few pictures of some of Mother's sisters and brothers. My mothers name was Esther, and she's in the 1910 census with charlie and Mary Ellen. My father knew Charlie well, and he gave the me the names of some of his sisters. More later.
And also, that survivor "Charles" could have been Uncle Bud. Do you have a copy of it? Where did Charles live? Can you send me a scan of it when you get time? I have a copy of his and Mary Ellen's marriage certificate, and they were married in Conecuh County in December 1900 or '01, when Mary Ellen was just turned 14 years old, and he was in his 40s. My daughter called, so bye for now. Love ya.

Thank you Donna for verifying that he had a sister named Isabella!! I was looking through my Bible this morning on that family info, and Daddy said one of his sisters name was "Isabelle" but I could never find it!! I finally found that the one that Daddy said was called "Tuzz", ( he never knew her real name) in the (I think) 1910 census and I'll have to look it up again but I think it was Ophelia which is also the middle name of Charlie's daughter, Rosie Ophelia. When I sent the last message that Uncle Winford died in Cantonment, I couldn't remember the county, but it is Escambia. BTW. I had some financial and medical surprises and was without a computer for a couple of months but am back on now!! I been away so long that I have to refresh my memory on a lot of this!! How are you related to Charlie? He was my grandfather, as I stated, and Daddy knew all of the family. He loved "Uncle Charlie", as he said everybody always called him. (Did you know that Janet Moore's husband is a direct descendent of Charlie?) And in one of the censuses, his last name was listed as "Farmer", as was a lot of times. Later. Love ya.
Joanna, it is Donna. I have joined in the hunt for Charles Braxton Farnham's place and date of death. Joanna, I do not believe he died in 1930...here's why. I have an obit of Isabella Farnham Dauphin who died in 1933, on the obit, it lists Charles Farnham as a survivor..I also found a census that lists him in 1920 living in Poley,Al and I believe I found him in 1930 in Florida. I can not find him after 1930...but the obit of Isabella, has him living in Covington County again.
