Hi Wayne,
We were just engaging in my family when you were moving and I don't think (?) we ever got into anything specific about them. Since the court house fire in 1885 in DeFuniak Springs destroyed a lot of records, it has really hampered my search. My great grandfather was David H. Henderson, b. about 1857 to James Jackson Henderson and Winnie (Griffith) Henderson and my great grandmother was Martha A. Coon, b. abt 1857 to Lewis Jarrell Coona and Mary Jane Meeks. My grandfather was Levi Robert Henderson b. abt 1881 or 1883. Could you give m e anything you might have in your database on these families?

Thanks so much.

I believe it is quite possible Polly is a granddaughter considering the ages of all.

Sarah daughter of John Drury Harvard is a sister of Roxian who married Clifford Godwin

another sister Julia Ann Harvard married Allen Brown

another sister Katherine married John R. Brown

about the Indian part-- I just don't know
Allen and Henry's mother and John R.'s Grandmother-- Nancy Catherine Hall was a Creek Indian

Good; at least the possibility of Polly being a grandaughter is there. That's encouraging to me. And Sarah's connection to Roxian is very helpful too; I hadn't deduced that.

My thought is that maybe Tecia (listed w/ Sarah in the 1860 census) was an orphan that Sarah took in and that this Tecia gave birth to the child, Polly - listed in the 1880 as Sarah and Henry's daughter.

The fact that Nancy Catherine Hall was Creek suggests the family would have been sympathetic to indian orphans.

But, I cannot find another reference to Tecia (or Tish) in any census until 1900 when she appears w/ Polly and two of Polly's sons - W.W (Bud) Walker and W.E. (William Ernest) - in the Boggy Pct.

Thanks Muchly. Judy

Hello,
I’m working on a family that may be in your database. They appear on the 1910 census. Walker Mitchum (various spellings). It appears they moved from ALA into the area. Wife’s name is Charlotte … Later I believe a son was born to this couple, named JOHN. I cannot find them after 1910 census. Living next door is Callie Mitchum (widowed female) family and next to them Stephen Mitchum family. A hit on any of these may be helpful ... looks as if they are a related family. Thanks for any help ...

I'm looking for a John Mitchum's family. Reportedly his father was a preacher in Perry, FL. This doesn't seem to be the family. I have a possible birth year of 1918 ... but really think the year may possibly be later perhaps as late as 1925. I thought this looked like a lead but I can see it is not. John had a sister named Tillie (could have been a nickname) ... don't know if she was older or younger. I do not know if there were any other siblings. Thanks for you answer.

I have done a lot of research in Calhoun County and have many names in my database. Kinda the same story as you. The beginning was innocent enough. I wrote a small book, 164 pages, on the John Fletcher Sewell family. He is the father of Harrison that you mentioned. Fletcher's father came to Washington co from Dale Co., Alabama. They then went into Jackson with John Fletcher settling in Calhoun Co., he raised his family. don't know if you are interested or not. Don't know how the family ties into your Walton Co. database but found it interesting.
