I know with Fla. you can write to the State Archives and get a copy of the Civil War pension Record. All you will have to pay for is the copies. I am not sure about Ala. , but I am sure you can do the same thing. The Pension records usually have who they served with or something that will help to find more information on their Civil War service. If it was applied for by thir widows it will have marriage dates and where they got married, more information that will be helpful in your search for your family. I hope this helped some. Tonya

For FLORIDA CONFEDERATE PENSION APPLICATION FILES TRY:
http://www.dos.state.fl.us/dlis/barm/Florida_CSA_Pension_Fil...
The index provides a listing of Florida's CSA pension files by applications file number and includes the veteran's name, his unit of service, state of service (if other than FLORIDA), widow's first and maiden name, county from which the application was filed, and the earliest year of application. Confederate pensions were awarded to residents of FLORIDA regardless of the state in which their service was rendered. "Information usually includes full name, date and place of birth, unit of service, date and place of enlistment, date and place of discharge, brief description of service and/or wounds, proof of service, place and length of residence in FLORIDA, as well as other miscellaneous documentation."
Copies of the files are available from THE FLORIDA STATE ARCHIVES, R.A. GRAY BUILDING, TALLAHASSEE, FL. 32399-0250...for a flat fee of $7.50 per file (veteran and widow are filed together). Make checks payable to the DEPARTMENT OF STATE.
My greatgrandfather served in an Alabama unit, but applied for and received a CSA pension in FLORIDA. Another relative was in a FLORIDA unit, and relocated to Texas where he later applied for and received a CSA pension.

There are also source books available at some of the area libraries.
I also found REGISTER OF FLORIDA CSA PENSION APPLICATIONS, transcribed by Virgil D. White very helpful. I found it while browsing upstairs in the genealogical collection at Pensacola Public Library.

Scans of Civil War Pension applications are available from the Florida State Archives at:

http://www.floridamemory.com/Collections/PensionFiles/

This is not a site to order from, but the actual documents.

I checked and John Allen McCullough's pension record is there along with his wife's widow's pension application.

Are you related to the Colvin family of Pensacola who came from the Pt. Washington area in Walton County? If so you should have a relative called Bradford Colvin and Bluford Colvin who lived in the Pt. Washington and Vernon area of Walton and Washington Counties. If so we are cousins.
