The cattle wars did happen according to my mother. Joby was born October 04, 1857. I am a descendent of Thomas Leroy
Gunter. Yes, I still have very many ties to Perry, Fla.
According to my mother, our family moved from
Escambia County to
Taylor County in the 1840's to escape the plague,
they homesteaded property in
Taylor. They may also moved to escape a murder of some sort......Someone killed someone..........don't know, wasn't there. Anyways, from what I know, Nancy Jane
Crawford Gamble was married to one of my great grandfathers on my mothers side, they had several children, Thomas Leroy
Gunter, Jr.,
Jincy
Lucinda Gunter, Aurelia Ann
Gunter, Derinda Martha
Gunter, Sarah
Henrietta Gunter, Charlotte Mahalia
Gunter,
Joby
Johnson Gunter, and
Dillen Jordan
Gunter. The place I remember most is on
Beach Road, Pa (my great grandfather,my hero), would sit in his chair on the front porch.
Pa was a great man. A big man. I never knew his son, my biological grandfather, I have pictures, but he killed himself when my mom was about 3 months pregnant with me. His name was John Charles
Gunter. Also, according to my mother when she was growing up on the same property that I remember while I also was growing up, the Indians came and visited, usually staying the night. Also, one other thing comes to mind, back then it was a shame to have an Indian wife, but, with all the traces we have done, it does point back one, and back then white men would give their Indian wife a white lady's name. Her name was Ghi-Go-Ne-Li. Cherokee.
Also, look at the names of
Kinsey, and
Sadler. Yes, my family goes back in
Taylor County. I'm very proud of my heritage. My Nancy Jane
Crawford Gamble who was married to Thomas Leroy
Gunter in 1843, was born 03/29/1825,
she died 01/18/1868 in
Boggy, Escambia, Fl. The info I have is that she was buried in
Boggy. Most of my immediate family are buried at New Hope Cemetary, I hope to be buried there someday. If you want any help on the the sites there let me know, Pa is buried there. CC
