The Findagrave post gave Annie's death date as 1928 when it should have been 1982. That's just a transposition error. Louise is the son of Dr. Lester Walker Hunter (1853-1937) and Martha Caroline Boyce (1851-1897), both of whom lived near Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Sardis published a history called "A Goodly Heritage" about 15 years ago; the author is Jennings Reid, a longtime associate pastor there (and my second cousin a couple of times removed, through the Hunter line). I see a used copy available on Amazon.co.uk that you ought to buy. It will tell you a lot about the Hunters, Boyces and so forth. Those families figured very prominently in the development of not only the church but also the community.

The Annie Hunter you found in Wildwood cemetery can't be Annie Burnett Hunter because I know she was alive long after that date. She sent a photo of her daughter Margaret and Margaret's daughter whom I think was named Bev to my gran and that was in 1967.

That was a quick reply - thank you.
Very interesting to find out about Louie's ancestors. Was he born in North Carolina in 1886? I know he died on 03 Feb 1972 in Bartow and Annie died on 07 Aug 1982.
I think J. Lester had children Louise and Diane but I don't know his wife's name or what happened to the daughters.
There was a J.L Hunter living in Bartow in 1999 according to the telephone directories, but I don't know if that is Annie and Louie's son, and whether he is still alive.

It's also very interesting to hear about Henry Hunter and Martha Sloan who emigrated from Derry Co, Ireland about 1772. My grandmother (Annie's sister) married William Sloan who was born in Liverpool but we think his father James came from Ireland.

I have also found a Louie Hunter born Mecklenburg mentioned in World War 1 Draft registration Cards 1917 - 1918 so I assume that this is our relative?

I'd be delighted if you could let me know should you find any further information on the Burnett/Hunter family.
Thank you so much for the information you have given me - I can now give Louie a family!
Kind regards
This is odd.... The 1935 Polk CO, FL census quite clearly shows Louie Hunter living with his wife Annie and children Louie, Lester and Margarette. Annie is also shown on the 1930 federal census. Findagrave.com shows an Annie Hunter buried in Wildwood Cemetery in 1928. That can't be correct. Or at least, that person is not Louie's wife.

Louie and I have the nearest common ancestors Thomas Hunter (1785-1871) and Margaret H. Walker (1791-1869) of Mecklenburg CO, NC. Their son Lorenzo is my 3rd g-grandfather; their son John is Louie's grandfather. Thomas Hunter is the grandson of Henry Hunter and Martha Sloan, who emigrated from Derry CO, Ireland around 1772.

John Hunter was the pastor at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC for 27 years. I grew up in Charlotte and was baptized at Sardis; there were lots of Hunters, Walkers, Boyces, etc. in that congregation.

The only lead I can give you regarding descendants of Louie and Annie is a 1945 marriage in Polk CO, FL between R. Franklin Lane, Jr. and Margaret Amelia Hunter, whom I suspect is their daughter. Their son Louie, Jr. died in Lee CO, FL in 1971; I don't know if he ever married. They also had a son J. Lester, but I can't find a trace of him after 1930.

If I find anything more, I'll post it here.

Yes, I would be very interested to hear from you about the Burnett/Hunter family. I am trying to find living relatives of Annie and Louie Hunter. I did travel to America and visited their family home in Bartow but it was empty and I have been trying to find family members for the past few years without much success.

I would be thrilled if you could let me have any details that you have regarding them. My grandmother and Annie Burnett Hunter were sisters.
Regards
Stella

What I had hoped to learn waswho her parents were. I have her from her first marriage until her death, but not anything prior. I do appreciate the effort you made. Henry

Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to do a cemetery gravestone lookup for me? I think my relatives would be buried in the Auburndale Cemetery by the railroad tracks but am not positive. All I remember from visiting the relatives one time at a family reunion was in a house that was across the street from the cemetery or close by as that used to be the old family homestead for the Enfingers( I think). Am searching for my great grandfather John Cleveland Enfinger and his 1st wife(my great grandmother) Gusta "gussie" mae mills' gravestones. Also interested in any other Enfingers that might be buried with John Cleveland( I think his father Daniel Enfinger is located in the same area as well.) any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't get to go down that way often.
Bessie Autrey was born about 1914 in Texas. She was the daughter of Latta Malette Autrey of NC and Lelia Brannan Autrey of Greene Co., MS. She married Horace H. Jones, who owned the Hammond Jones Chevrolet Dealership. His obituary states that he was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Jones. Who was Thelma, and what happened to Bessie Autrey Jones? Did Bessie die, or was the couple divorced? Any help greatly appreciated.

found new info while looking thru some of my things - before my granny died in 2005, (Sidney's grandaughter / Susie's daughter) she told me a couple of things and I wrote it down. Susie was with someone by the name GORE when Susie and Wilbur divorced (Sidney's daughter) - I later found out her mother's name was GORE so I assumed this person was a relative - my granny told me susie later married this GORE (back in the day I guess marrying cousins was not unheard of...if he was a cousin). My granny swore that Susie died around 1940 or 41 and she died in the state hospital Chatahoochee which I think is in Suanee county (?) - Susie's middle name was Mae per my granny, although the other info I had lists her middle initial as 'J'. if ANY OF THIS rings a bell with anyone I would appreciate hearing - I would like to know what happened to Susie...Thank you!

According to Find a Grave, both Fred and Hertha are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Plant City, Hillsborough County. Try contacting the cemetery, they may have additional info.
http://www.plantcitygov.com/index.aspx?NID=308

For the record I have discovered the entire story of my Grandma Jennie's life...well, the essence of her life and that almost all that I described in my last message was correct. The major exception is that Grandma did remarry about 5 years after my grandfather's death (a railway accident, to be sure) to a John Chaffey and between him and Grandma a daughter was born, Louise Chaffey who just happens to be my father's only surviving sibling. Now Louise Gilhousen and residing in Ohio, we've connected by phone several times and Sis and I are planning a "reunion" in the near future...say>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>AIN'T THIS ANCESTRY networking a real treasure?

There is no obit listing for any Edwards in 1929 the Tampa papers. I cannot think offhand what other paper it might have been listed in?
There is a Polk County Historical Library in Bartow. They might have some ideas. Do not have the email address with me. Sure you could google it.
Good Hunting,
Frank
