LAKELAND -- Mr. Richard D. Whitehurst of Lakeland died of cardiac arrest Saturday (May 27, 2006). He was 79.

Mr. Whitehurst was born in Auburndale. He spent his summers in Cullasaja River RV Park, Franklin, N.C. He attended Christ Lutheran Church of Lakeland and was an associate member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Franklin.

Mr. Whitehurst is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Whitehurst; sons, Richard Whitehurst, Thomas Whitehurst and Neal Whitehurst; four grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, 38 Wayah St., Franklin, N.C. 28734.
