Hello: I live in Highlands County, Florida. I'd like to share a story with you
Once opon a time a young girl fell in love with an older man his name was Lemmie Lee Prescott. His Mothers name was Jane Prescott Known throughout Okeechobee as Aunt Jane Prescott.(maiden name unknown to us at this time) his Fathers name is also unknown to us at this time.
The young girls name was Helen Moore. They wanted to marry but the girls Mother would not hear of this.
The young girl became pregnate in hopes of a wedding soon.
Her Mother still would not hear of this.
Their child was born and delivered on the Okeechobee County side of the River from Highlands County just off Hwy 98.
He was delivered by his Grandmother Jaunita Sylvia Durden
wife of Wesley L. Moore who at this time also lived on the River.
Lemmie Lee Moore came into this world on November 27, 1934
without benifit of a Father..........at least to be raised by him. His Mothers full name being Helen Louise Moore.
Present at the birth was a Prescott woman.
Lemmie Lee Moore was raised by his Grandparents Wesley L. Moore and Jaunita Sylvia Durden Moore as one of their own.
Later on Helen Louise Moore married a Walter Howard and had a son and a daughter. One day Mr. Lemmie Lee Prescott paid a visit to them. He said "He loved Helen and always would and that Lemmie Was his son". He man was said to have had tears in his eyes.
Lemmie Lee would go and visit his Mother and Younger brother and Sister often. On one visit his real Mother Helen told Lemmie that she was his Mother and that Mr. Lemmie Lee Prescott was his Father.
Lemmie Lee returned to the home of his Grandparents and was told that this was not true by his Grandmother.
Sonny (Lemmie Lee Moore) was still young and this confused the boy.
Sonny grew up and met and Married Mary Elizabeth Randall and they had a son William Tony Moore (my Husband).
When Tony was two years old, Sonny joined the Airforce and left Tony and his Mother.
Tony never saw his Father again until he was 14 years old.
Tony did not want to have anything to do with his father at all, he felt he had not been there for him and he had gotten by just fine without him.
When Tony was 22 years old he met and married Dolores Gail Cothran. Together they had four children.
Thru an Aunt of Tony's he learned he had something in this world he had always wanted. He had a four year old Sister he had never met.
Tina Lee Moore brought her older brother together with his Father at last at the age of 4 years old.
Soon Tony and Sonny grew very close and the bitterness seemed to fade away......................
Like anyone else Tony asked who his Grandfather was.
Sonny said he did not know. That different ones had told him so many different things that he did not know.
Lemmie Lee Moore died on March 7, 1990 and is burried in Okeechobee in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
The Children of Lemmie Lee Moore today found out from a sourse in the family the idenity of their Grandfather
