Wiggins

Looking for anybody who can help piece this family together. So far, this is what I have...

Peter wiggins and Elvina Summerall had a son named Joseph "JJ" Wiggins born March 1853 either in GA or FL.

Joseph had about 3 marriages.

1880 census, Center Village Charlton GA, shows Joseph Wiggins age 25 with Mary Wiggins age 23 and 2 children: Emma age 4 and Peter age 1. I'm not sure if this is the same Joseph I'm looking for.

Children from #1 marriage: John Wiggins born about Nov 1879. He is found in 1900 census with Joseph in Waresboro Town, Ware Co., GA

children from #2 marriage: Lucy (no further info), Vina (born abt 1883 & married Washington Wayne Waldron), Elvie "Lizzie" (born Jan 22, 1886 and married Bartow Hayes), Emma (born abt 1887, no further info) and Annie Louise (born Jul 27 1888 and married Jeptha Rice). Since there is no 1890 census, so far, I've not seen these girls listed with their father. I've pieced this together from various online postings.

children from #3 marriage: Nellie (no further info), Mollie (married Leonard F. Osteen), Bertha (no further info), James and Mylinda/Linda (married Mr. Spellman). I believe marriage #3 was to Mary Louise Vinie Adams. which took place Sep 11 1903 in Columbia Co., FL.

Joseph and Mary are found in the 1910 census living in Watertown, Columbia, FL. In 1920, they lived in Lulu, Columbia Co., FL Joseph died in Waycross, GA, and Mary died in Jacksonville, FL.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks,
Karen
AS evidence of the high appreciation in which this brave and meritorious young "Soldier Boy" was held, his commander told him that, for the fact of his youth-he would be honored by promotion-as an expression of the estimation in which he was held by his comrades, the corps presented him with a new overcoat-and an entire suit of Confederate Gray.
In 1865 he was sent to Georgia for a horse and when at Augusta was pressed into Service by General Fry and placed under the command of Kolb at Macon Georgia. After that he walked from Montezuma to his home.
Engaging with his Father -he clerked with him until 1869-when he went into business for himself.
I am interested in knowing more about the KING family.

I am researching the YOUNG lineage from SC.
I have discovered that EPSEY ANN YOUNG (Clarke Cnty,MS) born 1823 died 1853, married a JOHN Q. ADAMS (his brother was HIRAM ADAMS) Epsey and John named one of their sons after his brother: Hiram. Adams researchers believe John and Hiram Adams were actually, John King and Hiram King, sons of THOMAS KING III of Nassau County Florida.

Hope to hear from anyone re above.

hello there. About all I have of my grandmother is a copy of her marriage certificate, issued by the State of Florida, Nassau Country. anyone know who might take on this assignment to find out more about her and let me know?
to add, my mother, Griselda (formerly Zelda) and my Aunt, Grace - both Nee surname Morrison - the fellow that married Irene A. Rasbury on the 31st of August, 1920 are both alive but will not provide me with anything about their mother - my grandmother. Grace lives in South Carolina and her son, Carey, lives in Virginia so clearly there are very Southern roots at play, despite the fact that my Grandfather, William Hebert Morrison, was a Canadian from Toronto who had divorced a lady in Toronto, Nellie Brigand, and ran off with a Southern Belle by name of Rasbury. I do know he was some 20 years her senior and they argued terribly. I do know he was a gambler and not a good provider to the family. I have no idea what my grandmother looked like, anything about her heritage, or where she is buried - I would like to know. I don't mind hiring someone so please free feel to respind to my email address.

Found - Sons of Thomas King III of Nassau County, FL

In 1835, Thomas King III of Nassau County, FL crossed the state line into Camden County, GA with his sons John King, Hiram King, George King, son-in-law William Rouse and his brother Simeon Rouse proceeding to the Casey home. It is believed they were seeking revenge for his daughter Adeline King marrying William Casey against Thomas King’s will and angry that the Caseys had supposedly untied his ferry boats at King’s Ferry enabling them to float down the river towards the Atlantic Ocean. Several members of the Casey family were killed along with at least one other person and several other people were wounded.

Thomas King III was caught, tried, and executed. All the others escaped and fled. For years, various researchers have tried to find the King sons who fled. Recently, another researcher and I have concluded that John and Hiram King fled to Jasper County, Mississippi and changed their last name to Adams. Hiram Adams died in the early 1840’s, while John King, alias Adams moved to Clarke County, MS and lived until the 1870’s. John had a large family including 3 wives – Epsy Young, Lydia Evans, and Eliza Herring. We are still looking for George King.

If you have info on these families that would support or refute the above, please let us know by replying
I plan to get out to the County Records Office in Yulee within the next month. I will look for the actually marriage record at that time. But, the Nassau County marriage records don't usually have the additional information you are looking for. I'd probably have a better chance looking thru the newspapers at the library or looking at church records(?). Do you know their religion? If not, I may be able to tell that from the recorded marriage return at the courthouse.

According to the 1920 census on ancestry.com, the likely parents of Blanche Rewis are Dock and Ada Rewis. In 1920, they live in Johnsville, Baker Co., FL. Dock is listed as 32, born in FL, a farmer, with his father born in FL and mother born in GA. Ada is 32 and born in GA, with both of her parents born in PA. Besides Blanche, age 8, they have a son Wesley, age 10.

Blanche's father "Dock" is listed as Arley in the 1910 census. He lives in Baker Co., FL with his wife Ada and son Wesley (of course, Blanche is not born yet).

Do you have further information you could share on George Holzendorf? I see that he is in Nassau Co. FL in 1850, but it looks like he is in Columbia Co. GA in 1860 -- same name and trade (tin smith), but wife's name is Elisabeth. Would this be the same man? On this 1860 census, George and Elisabeth have one daughter Mary, 1 > son, John 11 and son, William 9 -- listed in that order. On the 1870 Columbia Co. census, George is now George W. Holzendorf, and the children are Mary E., John L. and George W.
