Col. John Bryan (b. ~1734
Craven Co, NC, d. May 25, 1801,
Jones Co., NC (formerly
Craven Co.) m. Rebecca Martin) served as a Col. in the
Craven Co. militia during the Revolutionary War.
His son John Hill Bryan was a captain, although DAR records show him as a Private. John Hill Bryan (b. Aug. 30, 1761,
Craven Co., NC, d. before Nov., 1826. M. Elizabeth
Harrison) named Edward, Jospeh, Penelope and Mary in his will, which was probated in
Thomas Co,
GA in 1826. They had 11 children, including John, who married a Cherokee woman with the last name
Soles.
Almost nothing is known of John (b. 1788, New
Bern, NC) who is believed to be one of the several John
Bryans living in
Madison Co., FL in the 1840s. I am searching for more info about his wife --Soles. One of their children, also John Hill Bryan, named for his grandfather of the same name, married his 1st cousin Susan
Coffee, who was (Ann) Penelope Bryan and Gen John E. Coffee's blind daughter. Their son Joshua
Soles Bryan is my great-grandfather.
