My records indicate that my GGGrandmother, Sarah Ann (BROWN) RENEW died Dec. 26, 1904 in Liberty Co. I already tried for a death cert. from the Office of Vital Statistics. I got a "not recorded" answer. I'm trying to find where she's buried. Also looking for the burial place of her husband, my GGGrandfather, John Thomas RENEW. Any help much appreciated, I'd be happy to share info.

I am also researching the Renew family. My grandmother was Willie Mae Renew. She married John Lowe. Please contact me, we could possibly have information for each other. Dorinda

Sarah Ann Brown Renew is my GGG grandmother on my father's side and my GGG aunt on my mother's side. What else do you have on them? Do you know all of Sarah's sibling's names?

Hello Jim,

I think we're cousins! My GGG grandmother was Sarah Ann BROWN, who married John Thomas RENEW.

Is it true there is some Native American blood in the family? My grandma told me that there is. She remembers Aunt Zula (Sarah Ann's daughter) and once told me that Aunt Zula looked "very Indian."

Also, I've seen pictures of my grandmother, who could easily be 1/4 or 1/8 Native American. My grandma always said that the family had Cherokee blood, but then she told me a few years ago that her ancestors was actually Cree (I don't know why the change!).

Anyway, Sarah Ann was my Grandma’s paternal grandmother, and she died before my Grandparents was born. But they all live down there in Liberty County so they passed on a lot of stories orally about the family tree and the family history.

I visited Florida this summer and made a recording of my grandma and great uncle (Benjamin Franklin Faircloth). Uncle Benny said that Sarah Ann was in “Chatahoochee” in Florida, which they told me was the state mental institution. She died in Bristol, so my great uncle told me.

They told me some interesting stories about Sarah Ann's children. The told me that they called Ruth Parthena RENEW “Granny.” They also talked about their great-uncles and aunts.

My great-uncle said that Charles RENEW (born in 1865) fell in love with a woman from Sumatra and she told him he was married. So he killed her husband, and “went down to the river and caught hold of a log and floated all the way down to Apalachicola.” Later he told me that Uncle Arch was "runnin from the law, so he jumped on a horse backerds” and he road off, and he was never seen again.

I know some more about them too. I would be willing to any other info if you like, as well as my gedcom, which is kind of small but I’ve been working on it a few years now, and there are about 300 people in it.

Also, I did a search on familysearch.org and found some people listed in Blountstown and Bristol who were doing some research on Sarah Ann Brown. They are listed at the end of this post.

Best regards,

If my research is right, Sarah is the daughter of William T. Brown and Elender (Ellener, Ellenor or Eleanor (LNU)). Her siblings are John F (or T.), Ellener L (or S.), Polly, Caleb, Elisabeth, Edward David, and Cornelius B.

I can't find where Sarah or John Renew are buried. I've looked online at all the Liberty and Gadsden cemetery sites.

I haven't done the specific research, but my gfather was Dave Brown, married to Fannie Jacobs. Settled in Liberty County in the early 1800's. Lost touch with the Most of the Brown's because most of them have passed away, My grandfather died in his 30's. They were Lumbee (sometimes called Lobee's) Indians, still have relatives in Bristol and in N. Carolina. Relatives: Brown's, Jacob's, Lowery's, Oxindine's,and more.
