James D Prevatt I

his parents
Peter I Prevatt b 1718 Manakintown,Virginia d 1767
New Bern,North Carolina m Elizabeth b 1715
m 1738 in Manakintown,Virginia

Pierre Prevott b 1673 Guines, Pas-De-Calais, France
d 1740 Manakintown,Albemarel Co. Va.

Pierre Prevatt was a French Huguenot. He embarked on the Peter & Anthony in 1699 from London. He arrived in Jamestown. A bachelor comrade, Jean-Pierre Bondurant (Cedarsong's husband's ancestor), stayed with him in Manakin-town *, a town of bark houses abandoned by the Monacan Indians on the James River outside what is now Richmond. He managed to find a wife in Indian territory (name unknown).

* An early French Huguenot settlement

Pierre Prevol found on passenger list

I find my information from people like you and I on the internet. After a point there are no census or birth records readily available, then the kindness and dedication of strangers who are kin is there for us.

Lynnda:

Yes, I would love it keep in touch. Hard to find people doing research for Oglesby's in Levy Co. Have you seen the Levy Co history magazines that were put out?

Also, have a website for that area of Florida that very few people use. Have a few pic's on there. I'll send you an invite.

Debbie

Somewhere I have lost the correct place to post this. Someone had said that Frances J Oglesby had a James William and an Elizabeth Gore from NC as grand parents. I think that is correct. Here are some of the things I found posted that may be helpful

In 1860 census:

GORE, WILLIAM J (1860 U.S. Census)
Florida , LEVY, LONG POND P O, Age 45, Male, Race: White, Born: NC
Series: M653 Roll: 108 Page: 90

William J. I think this might be Polly.
Everyone I have emailed has the same info - so think it is right. They were in Florida pretty early. I think Elihu even died in Levy Co. but no proof.

I have him with 9 children per census and decendant records.

Caroline b abt 1795 who married William Yearty.
Lewis b 1800
Elija b 1803
James b 1806
Hariet b 1808
Joseph S. b abt 1811
then
female 1815-1820
male 1825-1830
male 1825 - 1830

I have James D. Prevatt's father as James D. Prevatt but that is as far back as I have fone on that side.

Joseph's son Lewis married Olevia R. "Jane" Fleming and she is buried at the Ellzey cemetery near Otter Creek, Levy Co., FL. She has been described as a short stout woman and believed a daugther in law was a witch and caused problems with the burial of her daughter. I can't find out anything about her children except for the youngest three - quite aggravating. I guess they all died young.

Debbie

Hi:

Not too many Oglesby researching in Levy Co. They have been hard to find details on too. I spent some time at the court house but still didn't get too much.

See if I have this right:

Harriet Oglesby b 1808 dau of Elihu married George William Smith and had Elizabeth Osceola before 1840 not sure of date.

I have Elizabeth Osceola married to James Belon Hudson.
You have the same parents and grandparents for Frances that I have. These were based on public records in research done by my sister in law and neice. Elihu Oglesby name shows up on census records and he was the father that I show for Joseph, Johns father. All the locations match with our family know locations as do the other grandparents James Prevatt and Nancy Elizabeth Knight.

I would like to also compare information with the person giving you other information.

As far as Sidney Kemp. I am thinking his name was CAMP not KEMP. My reasoning is there is a marriage record for J W Odum and Mrs. Mary Camp in Levy County Sunday, November 04, 1906 .
There is a marriage record in Levy for Sidney L Camp and Mary Gore, 5 March 1891.

I am trying to determine which daughter of John P and Emma is Mary. The date of birth you give for her is throwing me off.
This is indeed my husband's line I am researching.
John P and Emma Richburg Gore had a daughter named Marietta but according to the census data she was born in 1872. She is not listed in the 1870 (As she should have been if she was born 1868) census but she is listed as a 12 year old in the 1885 census.

I am trying to get this straight in my head. Did Sidney Kemp and Mary Gore have the five kids or Mary Gore Kemp and Odum?
Was it after Kemp or Odum's death that they kids were put in the children's home?
If Kemp's death, were the five children left with him when Mary married the Odum?
Do you have marriage or divorce records for any of them?

What are the children's names?
I will go back though my records and see if I can see anything that might give some clues.

I wonder if the place she moved could have been Buena Vista in Orange county. There were several Gore families and their relatives in Orange County.

Her names was Verily. Think that Charley was Smiths son born to Frances. I heard my mother in law say Aunt Verily and Aunt Polly but never Uncle Charley. However he may have died young. If he had been Verily child and lived long the name would have come up in the family conversation.

Joseph Darlington and Frances J Oglesby were my husbands GGGrandparents. They had 3 daughters. Joseph Darlingtons father was named Charles. I have a Charley Darlington age 6 in the 1910 census. I do not know the date that Joseph died. After Frances and her 2nd husband passed the children were raised by some Smiths.

My husband has two lines of Oglesby. All in Levy Cty.
Frances J Oglesby married Joseph Darlington. They were his
great grand parents. Then he has Francis Agnes Carter married to William Francis Ingram his great grand parents. She was Elizabeth Osceola Smith daughter who was Harriet
Oglesby daughter. Both lines lead back to Elihu Oglesby 1777 where I ran into that old brick wall. I have everything that I have at rootsweb. I have run into brick walls with the Darlington and Ingram lines too.
After Frances and her husbands died, the children were taken in by some Smiths. Which was the last name of I think her 2nd husband. Frances Osceola was a Smith not sure if there is any connection to Frances J or not. Real small place was Ceder Keys. My husbands mom was born there.

Hello - I looked on Find A Grave to see if my g-grandfather was listed in Cedar key cemetery - he died in 1905 - Sidney Kemp. But what I read here on this board, is there were other cemetaries close by so he may have been buried there...I searched online at the Levy County site (genweb) and no luck there.....any suggestions? thank you!
Judie Serode

Thank you for your hard work! I have a question - my great-grandfather (Sidney Kemp) supposedly died in 1905 in Cedar Key, fl which is in Levy County but I guess that doesn't mean he was buried there. I looked at the K index and didn't see any KEMPS but that could be that he wasn't buried there or maybe Cedar key has it's own cemetery? Thank you
Judie Serode

found new info while looking thru some of my things - before my granny died in 2005, (Sidney's grandaughter / Susie's daughter) she told me a couple of things and I wrote it down. Susie was with someone by the name GORE when Susie and Wilbur divorced (Sidney's daughter) - I later found out her mother's name was GORE so I assumed this person was a relative - my granny told me susie later married this GORE (back in the day I guess marrying cousins was not unheard of...if he was a cousin). My granny swore that Susie died around 1940 or 41 and she died in the state hospital Chatahoochee which I think is in Suanee county (?) - Susie's middle name was Mae per my granny, although the other info I had lists her middle initial as 'J'. if ANY OF THIS rings a bell with anyone I would appreciate hearing - I would like to know what happened to Susie...Thank you!

I have reason to believe Susan's mother's maiden name was GORE - her father was Sidney Kemp and mother's name was Mary. They lived in Levy County, Sidney died in 1905 and Mary remarried someone by the last name of Odum. There are marriage records and death records that someone looked up for me that shows Mary's maiden name was GORE. Any info on that line would be appreciated!
No I got as far as my great-grandmother and the info I have for her I got from the children's home society. They list her father as Sidney Kemp who died, old and feeble (their words) and wife Mary, who remarried someone (last name?) Odum and moved to 'Vista', FL so the children were placed in the care of Children's Home Society. That is all I know on Sidney and wife Mary

yes Sidney and Mary had five hcildren. I don't know about Mary and Jw Odum (someone yesterday gave me info on him - they are listed in the 1930 census) It was after Kemps death and either at the time or right before Mary's remarriage, did the children go to the home (I have that documented) - I do not have marriage or divorce records for Sidney or Mary.
Susan (my g-grandmother)
Emma
Rebecca
Elizabeth
Willie
Thru the info that was given to me yesterday, they had her listed in POLK co in 1930 and died in LEVY Co....I also was given the info that Mary's parents were John and and Emma Richburg.
Judie
According the index I have for Levy County Cemeteries the name Sydney Kemp is not in there. Now that does not mean that he is not buried in Cedar Key, it just means that he may no longer have a headstone. Also keep in mind on Find A Grave those cemeteries are usually not complete. I have several notes that my mother and I have done and all of Lindon Linseys books on the cemeteries of Levy County. I am researching several families here in Levy County. I wish you luck on your search.
Terri
