Waukeena-photo of AMES House? AKA property of Willy CONNELL

This home, the AMES HOUSE near a stand of pecan trees, in Waukeena, Florida, no longer exists. It was purchased by Willy CONNELL, the youngest son of DAVID CONNELL-HATTIE TEATE. As far as we know, he actually never lived in it himself; however, various adult siblings did. No one is sure of the time span, could have been purchased by him as early as the late 1920s-early 1930s. It was eventually torn down we think due to its condition by one of the nieces. One of Willy's sisters, Bertha Mae CONNELL (LOVELL)(STOKES)(ANDREWS)ENNIS (1894-1996), lived in the home with her children for a short time [as had other CONNELL siblings]. One of Bertha Mae's daughters, Marion STOKES SANDERS, would love to locate a copy of a photo of the so-called AMES HOUSE if one exists. Any leads would be welcome.

Those requesting info on the names/dates on the graves of the Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Cemetery will be disapointed to learn that the condition of the head stones is such that only a very few are legible. The site, perhaps over two acres, is pock-marked with grave depressions, but no markers. My rough estimate is that there may be a hundred or more graves. My visit did not involve searching for individual graves but trying to find the actual site of the church. No church site could be found. A number of photographs were taken. These contain the headstone of William Brinson Bryan and no others as I found no others legible The headstone mentioned above contains the following: SACRED to the memory of William Brinson Bryan who died in peace Feb.20: A.D. 1881. Aged 33 Years, 11 months and 10 days. The site is difficult to locate, a guide is needed, snakes are numerous and the undergrowth is such that only winter visits are recommended. Copies of the pic of the grave stone described and of the cemetery can be provided to any who desire. Ed King

Shirley,
You're right. I don't have information on a Minnie but I do have 2 Elizabeths now. I have an Elizabeth Bozeman b1839 and married a Dennis Powell of Jefferson County. They had 12 little Powells. I have just received information on her ancestry. Elizabeth's parents were Jacob Nathan Bozemen and Catharine Cain. Jacob Nathan's siblings were Dorothy, DAvid, Samuel, James R., Mary Ann, Celia, and another Elizabeth. Jacob's parents were Luke Bozeman and Betsy Ward. These Bozemans also include Dooly Co. as part of their backgroud. Does this help? My only link is Elizabeth.
Mary Reynolds Woldering

I also am in search of Bozeman family members. There seem to be many Elizabeth Bozeman's. I have a small book called Sketches of the Bozeman family. It start's in about 1730 and ends in 1885. There are many names included, I would be happy to look up any name you need to see if there is any information on it. I also, just today, found the names of my great Aunt's & Uncles on the Bozeman side. This is probably not the branch you need, but, what I have so far is Minnie L. Bozeman, born in Walton county Fla., Her mother was Mary elizabeth Lindsey, the father was Andrew Lee (Ander) Bozeman. I have ordered the film for records of Mary Elizabeth's mother & father. Oh - Minnie Bozeman was married to Robert Brooks. If you have any info on this part of the Bozeman or Brooks family, please let me know, or if you can use any of the info I have collected.
Thanks, Shirley

Thanks for your suggestions, however I have done all of what you suggest and much, much more. I was in Bladen Co, NC and related areas last October and went to the beautiful Black River Presbyterian Church, which Thomas DeVane b1700 have the land for.

I have recently been told that there are no more DeVanes living in Jefferson Co, FL -- only Jeanette DeVane, the widow of Bobby DeVane. I am still searching for the link of these Jefferson Co DeVanes to Thomas DeVane 1700. Bobby's father was Richard DeVane b 1886 and I believe him to be a descendant of Benjamin Franklin DeVane 1796, but haven't been able to establish that link.

I am looking for North Florida DeVanes, particularly those who descend from Benjamin Franklin DeVane, 1796. This Benjamin was born in Bladen Co, NC, later moved to Lowndes Co, GA, then Quitman, Co, GA, Madison & Taylor counties, FL, then finally to Plant City, Hillsborough Co, area. He had 6 sons, all who fought in the Civil War:
John Thomas DeVane, b 1815 Bladen Co, NC
William H DeVane, b 1817 Bladen Co, NC
Samuel Rownan DeVane b 1824 Bulloch Co, GA
James S DeVane b 1827 Bulloch Co, GA (remained in Taylor Co)
George DeVane b 1832 Shady Grove, Taylor Co, FL (killed in Battle at Gettsyburg)
Benjamin Franklin DeVane, 1835 Shady Grove, Taylor Co, FL (died in Savannah Ga, while walking home to Plant City after the end of the Civil War) - my gg-grandfather.

Jefferson Co: Below are DeVanes in Madison Co, FL I know of but have not been able to link or find their descendants.

From SSDI:
Richard Devane 2 Jul 1886 Feb 1971 Monticello, Jefferson, Florida - SSDI
George Devane 16 May 1909 Dec 1967 Monticello, Jefferson, Florida - SSDI
James H. The DeVane(DeVaughan) name is prominent in the Cromartie family in Bladen County NC and Sampson County NC especially at Black River Presbyterian Church, Ivanhoe, Sampson County.

Sorry for taking so long. I have found out that Carrie Lewis is in fact my Corry Lewis I have listed. She was my grandfather's sister. My family (Lewis) seems to be in Jefferson county as far back as the 1850s any information you might have would be of great help. You may email me at bobby.lewis@gtcom.net. I will be more than happy to share what I have.

I apologize for taking so long myself it has been awhile since I have been on the message boards. I have a habit of experiencing burnout from these searches. My father was Bobby Lee Lewis. His father was Christopher Columbus Lewis and was the son of Jim (I know this is a name short) and Fannie Lewis. I am running into big gaping holes as to tracking down the Lewis family tree. Please feel free to email me at my personal email of bobby.lewis@gtcom.net. I am trying to dig as far back as possible to find out our family history.
