My gggfather William Henry SHUMAN lived around the GA/FL line close to Little Flock Road between US 19 and the Boston road from 1835-1875. His son John Rutherford SHUMAN was buried at Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Jefferson County in 1885. Can anyone help locate the grave of William?

My grandfather John Thomas Sheffield was originally from Jefferson Co, FL, born 1878...his father was John Harvey Sheffield buried with his wife Sara Jane Wooten in Mt Olive Baptist Church Cemetary, Jefferson Co FL. The graves were unmarked until several years ago when my aunt researched and found them in the church cemetary plot records. Hope this helps.

Bonnie: Read your responses to Sherry Sheffield. Was Isham Sheffield related to John Harvey? Isham was born 2-1-1877, d 1928, in Jefferson Co. Fl., married Irene Shuman b 4-8-1885,d 1928 (she was Cliff's sister), both buried Olive Cemetery along with other Sheffield's. John Thomas Sheffield must have been Isham's brother. Regards,

Clyde

Thanks Bonnie for your reply. Maybe we have found one of the "missing links". I will look at my stuff (still getting organized) and when I do that maybe together we can get it all in place. My grandfather's(John Thomas Sheffield)of Brooks Co GA, whose father John Harvey Sheffield we mentioned, lost his father at a very young age. I believe his mother Sara Jane Wooten died when he was twelve. My folks have told me he lived by his wits on the streets and finally as an adult became the overseer on the MacIntosh plantation in Brooks Co. Later was a store owner and farmer.
It amazes me that back then one could rise above all that without "help" from resource centers. I'd love to hear more about your line of the family. Feel free to email me at elf11wzd@home.com.

Sherry, Thanks for your response. My gggrandfather William Henry Shuman married Martha Sheffield and then married Sarah Anne Sheffield after Martha's early death. My line comes from Martha. We believe that Martha and Sarah were sisters whose parents were John Sheffield and Martha Harvey. They came to Thomas county from Bulloch/Bryan county GA in the 1830's. I know that John's father was William Sheffield m Mary. They were from NC. I think your John Harvey Sheffield is the son of my John and brother of my Martha and Sarah Anne. I think our lines may join at that point. I am also kin to the Wootens. My ggrandfather's sister Ally married a Wooten in Jefferson county

Clyde,
The Isham you are you are referring to is a brother to James Sheffield Born-1888 Died-1939. He was my Grandfather. His father,Isham was in the civil war.I recently put a marker on Jim's grave. Been researching the Sheffield name for two years now.I found a lot of interesting info. Still a lot I would like to know.

Clyde: Irene Shuman was alive in the 1950's. She was mother of Ollie Lacy and grandmother to Ike and Charlie Anderson. Irene was a child of my uncle Henry Shuman who was brother to my grandfather William Thomas Shuman. The Isham Sheffield line (according to Anita Collins on GenForum)goes like this: Isham Sheffield m Nancy Roddenberry, Thomas co, GA, Sep. 1836, Isham II m Sally Wade, and Isham III m Irene Shuman. Happy hunting, Bonnie

Hi Barbara,
Thought you might have some info on my grandfather & his family. My grandfather's name was(my mother's father):
DALY DORIS SHEFFIELD(b:June 21,1919 in Perry, FL-d:1988 in FL University Hospital)he married Nina Matthews, and was the son of:
REXFORD SHEFFIELD(b:May 6,1896 in Watertown, FL-d:Dec.25,1968 in Mayo,FL)he married
OLLIE EUGENIA TOOTEN(b:Nov.3,1898 in Watertown, FL-d:Nov.30, 1933 in Mayo, FL)

Looking for Daly's siblings, Aunt's, Uncles, Grandparents, etc. My mother said he lost an eye working at a saw mill (have seen Sheffields who owned/operated saw mills in FL & elsewhere)so it could've been a family business. My mother also said that before living in Florida the SHEFFIELD family had lived in Georgia. Have also seen where a SHEFFIELD family migrated from NC to GA to FL. Also like my father's family of Cromartie.

Any help on this line would be great!
Much Thanks,
Carole A. Cromartie-White
