It is an article written in 1912 about Dr. William Lafayette Jerkins of Moultrie, Ga. I will write part of the article just as it is printed. I fount this in a book in the Library in Americus, Ga.where I live about famous people in Ga. Doctor William L. Jerkins, of Moultrie, comes of a fanily stock which is entitled to the credit of strong convictions. Hhe family was founded in Anerica by his great-great-grandfather, who came from either Ireland or Scotland, settled near Charleston, S. C. , prospered and acquired a pantation and slaves. His conscience became aroused upon the question of slavery, hke freed his slqves, sold his lands, and settled in Tallahassee, Fla., where he established a stage lline between Tallahassee, Fla. and Tuscaloosa, Ala. That he was a man of enterprise is evidenced by the faact thkat finding no bridges over the many streame wkhich his stage lines had to cross, lhe built pontoon bridges. Before moving to Tallahassee there had been born to him in Charleston, in the year 1810, a son, ROBERT WILSON JERKINS. The father dlied when Robert was a little boy of seven. The little fellow struck out on the stage lines that his father had operated, dropped off in Alabame, and for wuite a while lost sight of his kfamily. He was reared in the country, wlithout educational advantages k,became a farmer in Dale Co. Ala, married Elizabeth Daniels as a young man, and had a family of ten children, or whom Mary, William Jesse, Henrietta, Queen, Savannah and John Taylor Jerkins are now living. Though past fifty years old upon the outbreak of the Civil War, Robert W. Jerkins served as a Confederate soldier. He skurvived until July, 1890, reaching the age of eighty.
