I have hit a brick wall and I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to do an obit look-up for me. Can someone please help! I'm hoping the obit will give me some clues on his sibblings. Right now I have nothing on them.

I noticed on the SSID list where an old friend passed away. Her last address was listed as Brooksville, Hernando
Co in Fla.
I am sure it is her from the born month and date and also the State where her SS card was issued at. She passed away in 2006. Where can I write to get a copy of her Obituary? We had been looking for her and her sister. Unfortunately, we found one of them. Thanks for the help

The town (post office) of Cedar Tree in Hernando was what is today known as Darby in Pasco county. In one of the Hernando history sites:

the post office Cedar Tree first appears in 1853 with James Bates as postmaster. In 1871 the justice of pease were Jason T. McKeown and L.J. Strickland for Cedar Tree. The 1880 census did not list the post office. On February 12, 1872 the Cedar Tree post office discontinued its services. Just a little Florida history.

Has anyone had any success viewing the 1935 state census? Ancestry says it has Florida state censuses from 1867-1945 but I can't find any info on anything past 1885. If anyone has access to this state census of 1935, could you please let me know? I live in Texas so unless it is online somewhere, I don't have any way to check it and I really need to see it. I was looking at the 1920 census for my great(x3) grandmother Ollie Kincaid and I noticed that she and some of her neighbors have "Hardwood Quarters" written vertically beside their names. Does anyone know what Hardwood Quarters was?

JAMES B STEWART died September 23-1924 at Spring Lake-Hernando Co Fl.at age 76. It is possible he is buried at Empire Cemetery in Groveland Florida.

He also had sons ISRAEL PUTNAM STEWART(married DOLLIE CHRISTIANA GAFFNEY) and DECATUR STEWART(Married MYRTLE)

Thanks in advance for any information. There is a possibility that there is descendants living in the Hernando area today from JAMES BELTON STEWART born April 21-1896. Some of the descendants lived in Polk-Lake-Pasco and Pinellas County Fl.

I would see if I could find a connection between the Kimbrough's other than that of employee/employer. Several descendants of that Kimbrough family still live in Spring Lake.
I think but an not positive that the Pattersons and Kimbroughs are related.

There are several Stewart families in Hernando Co, not all of whom are related to each other. Try contacting the Brooksville Genealogy Library and Folklife Museum.

No, they do not have ANYTHING but the 1885 FL State Census online. A copy of the microfilm can be had from the Florida State Archives for 15.00 per roll plus postage and a xerox of the county for 12.00 plus postage. It took me 2 weeks to receive my copy of a microfilm roll of the 1867 State Census. You might also check with your local LDS Family History Center. They should be able to obtain it for you as a rental for a very modest fee. Check out www.raogk.org and see if there is a volunteer availble who has access to the FL Archives. Concentrate on Leon County as that is the home of the State Capitol.

Identifing Voting/Enumeration Precinct in 1880 Census

Pasco county was formed in 1887 from Hernando county. Does anyone know who would know the location (township) of any particular voting or enumeration precinct listed on the 1880 census. There is no Post Office listed nor any other identifying names that would tell where the ancestors are living.
On the 1880 census my ancestors are located in the 60th enumeration district and the 7th election precinct in Hernando County. On the 1900 census they are located in Pasco County in the 7th precinct. I am just wondering if this would be the same township area or not. I am posting this to both the Hernando and Pasco County message boards.
