I am wondering if there was an obit for Serena Sherouse? If it had anything about Merle in it? Also, if there was no obit, did you ask about funeral home records? Did you request any marriage records? Is Serena buried in a family plot? Are there other Sherouse's in it?

you might try posting query on Polk County board...

I have been in touch with Jennifer Marie Sherrouse regarding her SHERROUSE family connection to the COSTINE family from Colleton Co, SC that settled in Polk Co, FL...

she has done extensive research on the SHERROUSE family..

email address I have for her is no longer valid...

but you can search messages boards for her name as "author" to see info she has posted...

good luck!!

That's my problem. Where do I ask? Afriend looked up on ancestry.com some of the info on their deaths.. It a little expensive ordering all the death certifcates, I need. That is why I was hoping some one might know this family and know how I could find them through a newspaper or a public library their obits. Thanks for answering..

Well hello Norita. I've been searching for you. You and I were in contact until my computer crashed. It's been a while - just getting back to my genealogy.

Right now, I'm trying to work on my ggrandmother - Alice Mabel Sherrouse Crisman (married Laurence H. Crisman). That's about all I have on her. I did go out to the cemetary and get birth and death dates, other than that - that's all I have on her. Do you have her parents, brothers, sisters, etc. ?

You mentioned Owen. I remember him pretty well. Who were his parents? He and two of his wives are buried out at Joshua Creek Cemetary. I thought I got pictures of his tombstones, but I just looked and apparently did not. I wanted to find out how he spelled Sherrouse. I believe one of the wives was Sirena (spelling). I am going out-of-state, so won't be able to get it for a couple of weeks, but if needed can go back out and get pictures of all these tombstones? I probably will for myself anyway.

I notice there were other Sherrouse's buried there also. I didn't know this. I will have to take a walk thru the cemetary and look. I know my grandmother (Irene Crisman Waters) had a sister that is buried there too, that I want to look for - I know about where that's at, but didn't have a lot of time when I was there to look for it.

Oh, I'm not sure when Owen lived in Hardee (I don't remember that). I do know, as long as I can remember, he lived in DeSoto County. We did go by his house a few times. Also, I vaguely remember him telling my grandmother that she needed to do something ???? because there was Blackfoot Indian heritage somewhere in the family. He got something (not sure - land? Money? I don't know what) from proving this. I was too young to be interested then and my grandmother didn't want anyone to know (shameful) - do you know anything about this?

Hey Michelle just getting back on some of my old stuff too. I do not think Owen is buried there on Desoto. His parents are though. His parents were Thomas and Clara Burnsed Sherouse Hos brother Eugene ( Pasquale) and hois other sister are buried ther. In Jousha. His father Thomas was my husband's grandfather's and your great-grandmother Crisom's
brother, Never heard this Blackfoot Indian info befor. Uncless it came from Delia Watson Sherouse's side ( Henry Wesley Sherouse ) family's side?????

Hey Norita. Good to hear from you! Yes, Owen, Serrena (spelling) and Owen's first wife are all buried at Joshua Creek Cemetary, been there several times and went to Owens funeral. I can't remember his first wife's name.

Looking at Sherrouse history, didn't think there was any connection associated with American Indian there. I wish I paid more attention back then. I just remember him telling my grandmother she needed to get signed up for ??? and it made her mad. Back then it was like telling her she was from a mixed race and she "did not like it." Was just curious and at least now know it may be from the Watson side, not Sherrouse.

Thanks Norita - good to hear from you!

Michelle
