The information I have is in Jan 1831, single brothers William S and John Townsend landed in Fayette Co. TX, John was born about 1805 and William S about 1807. The article I have says So. Carolina, but I believe they are part of the Florida family listed below... as William S who married Polly Burnam later was granted land three miles east of Round Top, Texas.

This Townsend family migrated from Florida to Round Top, Burnet Co, Texas, in 1826.
These are the family names: Stephen Townsend, J.T. Townsend, John P. Townsend, Nathaniel Townsend and Spencer.
(Possibly a Thomas Townsend and Asa Townsend)

They belonged to the Masonic Order in the Florida Lodge, Number 46, A.F. and A. M., and presbyterian by faith.

I believe a Light Townsend is an ancestor, but cannot connect all the names/lines. William S. Townsend b: about 1807 is our direct ancester, and have not been able to connect him yet to this family at Round Top (believe I'm on the right tract to them) or to any other ancestor, any assistance would be helpful.

I have some information on some of these Townsends. Thomas Townsend born 1765 and Elizabeth Stapelton born in 1770 had children named Asa, Thomas Roderick, Stephen, Mary Elizabeth, Spencer Burton, Light Thomas, Moses, William T, and Stapelton. Thomas Townsends parents were Light born 1735 and Delilah Pouncey. Willing to share information.

I am researching William S. Townsend too. I am a descendent of William and Mary Burnam's daughter Nancy Ann and Miles Armstrong Smithhart's daughter, Sarah Temperance and John William Lee Sides' Daughter Effie.
William S. and John Townsend were the Winedale Townsends and cousins to the Round Top Townsend. I have information from William S. to the present but I don't have documents as to who his parents are. I have some material that says he was born in Georgia and other say S. C. I'll be happy to share information. Thank you,

I need a legal link between Light Townsend married Delilah Pouncy and their children. We know who they are but need will or some other document that I can use for DAR proof.

Really wish i could help, I have only that they are ancestors, but no proof yet as to wether they are really the ancestors to my line as I had listed. I am still searching for my actual link. Good luch in your search.

Yes, I still check my post...but never have found any link to speak of. I believe that my William S and brother John Townsend were born either in SC or GA. I am certain they are related to the decendents of "Jack" Townsend that migrated to GA from SC then to Florida, as "Jacks" decendents migrated to Colorado Co Tx. My Townsend brothers came from SC or GA, and it is noted in some of their history that they were related to these other Townsend brothers but had never met. If you have any leads I would greatly appreciate it. Susan

Which Townsend do you descend from?
I am descended from Stephen Townsend, one of the 7 brothers that came to Texas. There father and mother were Thomas Townsend and Elizabeth Stapleton. They started out in SC and moved to GA then FL and finally TX from 1831-1838.

I am decended from William S. Townsend born 1814. (He had a brother John that migrated with him) I know they were either born in SC or GA. They could have been born in SC and migrated to GA with their family ... but ended up migrating to Colorado Co, TX, from one or the other states. From the history of that era I have found where they were related to the Townsends that migrated from SC to GA to FL, but had never met them. So we are connected thru these cousins, but I dont know the family names. It could be that they are decendent from Thomas Townsends brother? I have no information that can help me connect them exactly where. Any help would be a blessing... Susan
