Can anyone prove who Eliza(Lula) W. DANIEL (b 1845/6, d/o Isaac & Celia DANIEL) of Columbia County married? There are conflicting family trees on Ancestry's Pub Mem Trees. One shows her married to John Zachariah WIGGINS, abt 1867 and later to Lewis PHILLIPS. Another entry shows she was married to Washington Lafayette HAWTHORN and then to Benjamin L. HICKMAN. Would like to know which is correct. Many thanks.

Isacc & Celia(Parker)DANIEL(s) lived in Columbia Co in 1840, 1850,& 1860 census. Can't seem to locate them after 1860. In 1870 Columbia census their children Caroline, Martha, Benjamin, Nancy and Eliza are listed. 1880 lists Martha, Caroline, Lula and Nannie all living together. I didn't seem to find these daughters in 1900. Anyone have information on this family. Who the children married? I found where Isaac was active in community affairs, but can't seem to learn when and where they all died and are buried. Any information welcomed.

His father passed when my husband was 8 years old. My hu. sband has no pictures, or anything to hold as memory of his father. No one in the family has a Obituary. My husband believe his father lived in Lake City, Florida. He was never married and had many children. We beleive the date of death is Jan. 1987. We are not exactly sure. The body may have been buried in Lake City, Florida. We even went to the City and was told there is no headstone where family believed his final resting place. Bobby Robert Simmons is his name, he had two sisters. There may be family in Lake Butler, Florida (UNION

Good Hunting
Good Day,

I am searching for my Father, who I have learned passed away Jan. 16, 1987. He was born on Nov. 25, 1940. His family called him Bobby. I am not sure exactly how his name is listed on his birth certificate and death certificate. I wish to obtain both. I do not have any information on my father, except he lived in Lake City, Florida (Columbia county). I do not know any relatives of my father. I have been searching for years. I am now 35 years old, married with kids. I feel like a piece of me is missing. I need to fill this void. I am pleading someone can help me. My father's name may be listed as Robert Simmons, without Bobby.

I am from Brisbane, Australia and a native of Florida, my family originating in Fort White. I am 73 years of age and not in the best health, but before I go I need to finish up some family business in Fort White. I am hoping you can help or assist by putting me in touch with someone who can.

My great great grandfather was a Confederate solider in the War Between the States. I am told died in Fort White and was buried without a headstone. As such, I want to acquire a headstone for his grave before I die. I know his son, John William Gray, born Nov. 1856/ died 1900 in Fort White is buried there somewhere as well; but I don't know where. He was married to Eliza Jane Harrell.

My great great grandfather, the Confederate solider, was named James W. (William) Gray, born 1823 in Wilkerson, Georgia/ died in either McCalpin or Fort White Florida; I don't know the year. He was married to Jane Calhoun.

If you can provide me with any information on the death and burial of my great great grandfather the Confederate solider James W. Gray, or his son, John William Gray, it would be very much appreciated by all the family. jamesmgray@bigpond.com

Sincerely,

James Mason Gray
Brisbane, Australia

Just wanted to update this thread. I successfully ordered 4 rolls of The Lake City Citizen Reporter on microfilm (1919-1928) via Interlibrary Loan from the Univ of Fl Gainesville.

I scrolled page by page through each roll and found several relevant articles/info about my family members and was even able to solve a family mystery that was hidden for decades!

Anyone with family in the Lake City area should definitely utilize the Lake City Reporter microfilm! I plan to place several more orders until I exhaust the supply. :)

I only have one with Mary Russ Prescott in it, and it isnt the best. I also have one of Henry Bunyon and Molly Morrell with Earl and Earleen Prescott.
You can view my Google web site: " May-Russ Family" and see those photos.
I found the Huntsville cemetery on Google Map. There is a “Old Mill Road” just southeast of Lake Jeffery off Lake Jeffery Road. It winds around the southeast end of the lake and then runs south of the lake and parallel to the railroad track. It looks like it ends up being a drive way for a house that is on Lake Jeffery on the west side of the lake. Do you know much of the grits mill as to where it was located and when it was in operation? It seems that Bells Mill was a rather large community but today I have found no existing evidence that it even existed, other than a couple of mention in old maps and the census of the 1920’s. Found mention of a post office but have no idea where it was located.

The cemetery I was looking for and found courtesy of Tem Moody back in April 2010. Very nice location although there is no identifying markings on the fencing. By looking over the stones I was able to confirm that it was correct. A couple months later I noticed on Find A Grave that a nice gentleman, Alton Christie, had taken photos of all the graves and posted them on Find A Grave. He has the cemetery listed as Mount Zion Cemetery but I believe the correct name should be Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery although the church was move many years ago.

As for the Wiggins name I have a couple in my line from my 3x Great Grandparents on my maternal side. Mary Wiggins b.1807 in Irwin Georgia and married to Jacob Darby b. 1803 in Georgia. They both died in Hernando/Pasco County Florida. I also have a second wife to my other 3x Great Grandfather Robert Duke Bradley b. 1790. She is Nancy Wiggins b. 1818 in Georgia. They to died in Hernando/Pasco county Florida.

Pat
Yes, I'm aware that in theory people should age about 10 years. My experience however, is that ages are fluent in the census (as well as other records). Also, it still doesn't answer soley by age whether they are the same or different Washington Scarborough. We may assume they are different because the household make up is different, BUT, what if wife #1 and children died because of accident or illnesses (or epidemic)? Without documentation to back up either case, it remains only supposition.

2 Washington Scarboroughs of Columbia Co FL? 1870 and 1880

In researching Washington Dallas Scarborough of GA & FL, I came across Washington Scarborough in the 1870 and 1880 Columbia Co FL census. The problem is that a fellow researcher believes the one in the 1870 census is NOT the same person as in the 1880 census. Both Washington Scarboroughs claim birth in Georgia. There is a slight difference in what would be the birth year -- not unusual for the census. So far I've not found evidence to indicate what happened to the 1870 family if it is a different Washington Scarbrorough or where they might have moved, or if catastrophic illness befell them and he simply remarried and began an entirely new family. Available death and marriage records have not been enlightening. Below are the 2 census records from 1870 and 1880 Florida. Does anyone recognize the 1870 family? I would very much like to clarify, eliminate or place in context the 1870 family as they do or do not relate to the 1880 family.

1870 Federal Census: Lake City P.O., Columbia Co., FL, p.156, hh #1211, l.26, Scarborough, Washington, 31, farm laborer, b.GA; Scarborough, Sarah L., 25, b.FL; Scarborough, Emma, 6, b.FL; Scarborough, Julius, 3, b.FL; Scarborough, James, 1,b.FL.

1880 Federal Census: 4th District, Columbia Co., SC, ED 20, p.33/372A notes in the hh: Scarborough, Wash, 35, farmer, b.GA, p:GA/GA; Scarborough, Milley, 32 b.SC, p: SC/SC; Scarborough, Mellvin, 11, b.FL; Scarborough, Wesley, 9, b.FL; Scarborough, Renny, 8, b.FL; Scarborough, Emma, 5, b.FL; Scarborough, Marvin, 2, b.FL; King, Ellen, niece, 18, b.SC, p: SC/SC.

I have a indian war muster roll May 1836 of Captain L. Bailey's Company of the first Regiment of the Florida Volunteers commanded by Col. John Warren that shows John O'Steen 2nd sgt, absent with leave; fournished his own arms.
Another shows him as 2nd lt in 1843. This could be John Alexander Osteen or his son John Jr. I have another roster that says John A O'Steen was killed in 1836. I believe that John Alexander O'steen had two sons who ended up in Madison/Taylor County...two two being James and John found on the 1850 Madison Census.

I was going by my mom's notes:)
If you would like to contact me my facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/bettyjo1
My grandmother would have been Ellen Lee Johnson(your father's twin sister). My mom(Geneva) and her brother(Larry) were adopted out because Ellen L. Johnson was unable to care for them(she was in and out of the hospital). Elizabeth(my mom's sister) has since past away. We have one scan of Ellen Lee Johnson and two pictures of Geneva( "Aunt Geneva"). We would love to find more pictures of them and the family(Thomas, Willie L., Ellen P. Dicks etc.). I also have what looks like the official court documents about Willie L. and Ellen Lee being "Apprenticed" to and put into custody with Clenton Dicks and Ouida Dicks on Aug. 3rd 1929.
My mom and Larry live 20 minutes from me and we would love more info on the family. They have very little information because they were adopted out.

I ordered a death certificate from the State of Florida for my ancestor, Collin Thomas Slane, hoping to find where he was buried. The death certificate only shows the burial location as "Lake City, Fla." He was 81 years old when he died on March 30, 1919, in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida. Does anyone have access to cemetery survey books for Columbia County? Thanks for any help you are willing to provide.

John J H Davis is my 5th great grandfather. I was hoping to find out more about his wife, especially her maiden name. My mom recently did an mtDNA test, which follows the female line, and it would be nice to trace it back farther than Cecillia Davis.

Thanks!
