Hi Anna,
I live in Clay County. Federal Hill does not sound familiar to me, I will see what I can find.

Hi Anna,

Federal Hill Cemetery does exist in northern Clay County, just south of the Duval County (Jacksonville) and Clay County lines, do west of Orange Park.

That area right now is seeing a major residential and commercial developing. My husband tried to find the cemetery, no luck. He did speak with one of the developers. The cemetery is on the developers survey, with no access (land locked). The developer is not familiar with the area, which doesn't help with finding a way to get to the cemetery.

Federal Hill must be an old burial ground. The only info that I was able to find through Clay County is on an aerial photo. Long.-81.81429 Lat.30.18165. There are several web-sites used for aerial photos, the one that I use the most is www.terraserver-usa.com.

Hope this helps.....
Where are you located?

Susan

Both my husband and son have tried several times to find Federal Hill for you, no luck yet. The area where it is mapped, is in the middle of a wooded area, unable to find access to it. Maybe you will have better luck then they have.

I'm in Middleburg.

Visited this cemetery back around 1986. It was what some referred to as the Old Federal Hill Rd. I did visit it and interments are listed in the Clay County Cemetery Book, probably at the library (I do have a copy of it). When I visited there, I seem to recall someone knowing the current owner, who took us back to it. I had obtained a Clay County Map from the State Dept. of Transportation out of Tallahassee, for a small fee and it listed all the old cemeteries. Excellent for locating cemeteries. I could perhaps mail or fax a copy, if you have not located it as of yet. I'm a "Moseley" descendent, and did a lot of research in both Clay & Duval Counties. Let me know if I can help. This cemetery is located off Brannonfield Rd near one of the new housing developments at Oak Leaf. Last I heard was that there was very little left. The county archives has a photocopy of the original layout of the town Federal Hill. It was started by Union Soldiers after the war.

I'm right here in the Oakleaf area and have been trying to find a way into this cemetery. Anyone know if there is access yet?

Looking at the satellite image of the area, on Branan Field between the roads of Oakleaf Plantation and Plantation Oaks, there are two retention ponds with power lines going between them. That dirt road there travels under the power lines, but the entrance is fenced. It appears that if access to that road was obtainable, there is another dirt road just down a bit on the left that takes you directly to where the GPS coords say the cemetery is.

The second logical entrance (which of course is not accessible) is at the end of Oakleaf Village Parkway (aka Old Middleburg). At the end of that road is one of those PVC fences. I do not know if there's a way around that fence, but if there were, the road on the other side leads down to the main road under the power cables described above.

The third possible entrance I can figure is one that *might* be accessible and not gated in but it might take me looking a bit to see if it can be accessed. It might be with four wheeler. :)

I have not looked at the air/sat photo's but it sounds like you are talking about land that is or once was part of the Spencer property. You mentioned conversation with a developer. IF it was not Mr. Spencer, give him a try perhaps. He is a private person but quite friendly. If the place can be gotten to he seems like the kind of person who would make arrangements.
