I am looking for any information on a Julia or Juliann Callahan Taylor, wife of William Ernst Taylor from Orlando, FL. They lived in Cocoa Beach before Christmas of 1938. Julia left a suicide note and abandoned children in Cocoa. The children were cared for by the sheriff's wife until they were adopted out to different local families. Does anyone have any information on this woman? She was born in Georgia.

Bart, an obituary for Betty Lee Marshke was published in the Florida Today newspaper September 30th, 1996, page 3B. Here is an abstract:

Moved to Brevard County, Florida: 1975
Survivors: Daughter, Katherine Tittle of Syracuse, Ind., and Beth Konoco of Visalia, Calif, and four grandchildren.

I notice the surname is not spelled the same as the name in your query, Marshke instead of Marschke.

I have three Hardee siblings who all moved to Brevard County in the mid 1800's. In the Florida Death Index on Ancestry I found they all died there.

I was hoping there is a cemetery book for the county and someone could check for the following individuals:

Robert A. Hardee 1833 - 1919
....wife Emma P. Unknown
Allen W. Hardee 1839 - 1916
....wife Mary Wheat
Gardner S. Hardee 1842 - 1926
....wife Emily Stewart

I suspect several of their children remained in the area, but I am just beginning to work on this part of my family. Any cemetery lookups someone could do would be greatly appreciated.

If you descend from one of these folks I would love to hear from you. I have a bit info on their mother, Gracy Jones, who is my 3rd great aunt.

We have looked at the microfilm of the Florida Today newspaper for two weeks following the reported death date and find no obituary. If the obituary was published in Brevard County it would have been in this paper.

Great Granpa was George Joseph King, born in Sarotoga Springs,NY and died in Tampa, Fl. His first wife was Ann Quinton (born 1908 in Providence RI, and died in 1956 in Cocoa Beach). They had 3 children Ann, George, and James Henry(who is my granddad). Great Grandpa had a second wife whose name was Mercer (I don't know her maiden name).He pre-deceased her. He was the first port manager at Port Canaveral and was there for many, many years and they named George J King Blvd after him. Sorry I didn't help you find your family. I'm still struggling to find some on my other side of the family. Good luck in your search.

The funeral home record has only her name Mrs. Welch, Date of entry July 1929, and buried at Lagrange. No other info filled in.

Her obit published in the Titusville Star Advocate on July 19, 1929.has the following information:

Her maiden name was Ada Mae Marshall, born at Corydon, Iowa Feb 25, 1877. She married Mr. William C. Welch of Vidella, La. She was buried July 18, 1929 on Wednesday morning. She died after a long illness of Bright’s disease. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Titusville. At the time of her death, her husband was still alive as were 3 brother, two sisters, and a mother who lived in Mystic, Iowa. Burial was at LaGrange.

Right now, we have no record of where in LaGrange she is buried. There apparently is no tombstone.

A copy of the obit is available if you want it. We need an address to send it to.

You can get a copy of the death certificate by going to the Florida Department of Health web site at:

There are no restrictions on who can get a death certificate unless you want the "cause of death" included.

Hi Kathy.
I have a copy of the index of the Mortuary Records of the Koon's Funeral Home compiled by Rose Wooley, Titusville, Florida. In it there is a listed for Welch, Mrs., who died in July 1929. You may be able to find out more from the Titusville Public library Reference Department, phone 321-264-5026.

I am trying to find out if my GG Aunt Ada Welch(or Welsh) is buried in the LaGrange Cemetery. She died Jul 17, 1929 in LaGrange and the death certificate says she was buried in LaGrange Jul 18, 1929. Is there anyway to find out if she is, in fact, buried in the LaGrange Cemetery??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on Jesse James Harper. I found the following in Ancestry's death index and need more infor mation, perhaps an obit or transcription, to see if he fits into my family.

Death Date: 24 Jan 1978
Place of Death: Brevard Co, FL

If he is the one I am looking for he would have married Ella Elizabeth Bruner Slawter, Forsyth Co., NC 6/12/1953.

ELMON HORNE
Services for Elmon Horne, 66, of 1011 Lake Poinsette Rd., Cocoa, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brevard Memorial Park, Frontenac. He died Saturday at Archbald Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga. He was a retired auto mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Madie; one son, Wayne; four brothers, Jim, Thomasville, Ga., Carl, Morganton, N.C., Harold, Cocoa, and Fred, Cairo, Ga; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Mulkey, Rockledge, and Mrs. Dora Dekle, Thomasville, Ga.; and four grandchildren and one great grand-child.
Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, Cocoa, is in charge of local arrangements.

This gives you some of the information you wanted--one son, four brothers and two sisters named. The maiden name of Elmon's wife is not listed, however the Florida Marriage Record shows that Elmon Horny married Madie Boyles in Brevard County in 1928.

The newspaper for that area would be the Orlando Sentinel.

Thank you for your help. My guess is they may not have mentioned her name - only perhaps Alabama woman dies in automobile accident or something like that. I believe she was residing in Winter Garden at the time so maybe there's mention of it in that newspaper.

We look again at the microfilm of the Cocoa Tribune for a report of the accident, looking at all issues in August and the first week of September, 1941. We found no report of the death of Margie Atkins. The Cocoa Tribune was the local newspaper in Brevard County at that time and would be the one to report such an accident.

Mr. Vineyard was born in Akron, Ohio. He came to Brevard County in 1957 from Hollywood.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Vineyard of Melbourne; daughter, Christine Amburgey of Melbourne; brothers, Ogel Vineyard of Springfield, Ohio, and Bernard of [sic] Vineyard of Sabrina, Ohio; sisters, Helen Walker of Blanchester, Ohio, Thelma Perry of West Union, Ohio, Doris Arrasmith of Sabrina, and Wilma Wilson of Supply, N. C.; and one granddaughter.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Florida Memorial Funeral Home north of Melbourne. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Florida Memorial Gardens.

You can always check obit thru infoweb. I did not locate an obit for Earl. There were only 2 public records listed for him. There were dealing w/ his death certificate. No real estate or probate records listed.

Thank you. I appreciate your efforts. She is listed in the Florida Death Index as having died in Brevard County in 1941. It is possible that I have the month wrong, as it is the recollection of my father-in-law who was just a boy at the time. He recalls that they were living in Winter Haven at the time and it was a terrible car accident that occurred on a drive they took one day, probably going to or coming from a day at the beach. Mrs. Atkins originally hailed from Gaylesville AL and I have had no luck there finding anything in the newspaper.

We have created an index of all obituaries and death reports published in the Cocoa Tribune, the newspaper that would have carried the story of Margie Atkins' death. Her name does not appear in this index. We created the index by reading each page, looking for death reports. It is possible we missed the report. We will look again at the August 1941 issues, but it will be next week.

William Mascenia Aiken and Mary Jane Shipman family

I am interested in any pictures of William Mascenia Aiken (1857-1931) and Mary Jane Shipman Aiken (1858-1915) and /or their family. They lived in Brevard, North Carolina, and they are my great-great-grandparents. I have pictures of their eldest son and his family (Charles Frazier Aiken), as he is my great-grandfather, but none of them. I knew two of their daughters, but none of the others. Their children were:

As a family they moved to Wyoming in the middle of 1965. I think it was Rock Springs or close to there. I believe the remaining family is still there.

I am just wondering what is going on with Brevard Genealogical Society. When I go to their website, I am not able to post a question, get cemetery data, etc. Is anyone working on the cemetery data base in Brevard Co. Also, a lot of the pages I click on are a dead end and have expired. Just hoping they are not giving up.
