Please contact me. I have a document saying that Felicia A. Brown lived with the Richard Family. She was born in NC in 1824, I do not know how she came to live with the family. She married in 1845 to Samuel Worthington that lived in the same area as the Richard family according to the 1830 Alachua Co. Census. Also, a John R. Brown is listed on the 1850 census, age 23, living with the Richard family. He is probably a brother.
Any information about the Brown children would be appreciated.

I am trying to figure out the relationship to Annie Goolsby (she d. 1890-94), wife of James W. Cellon (both bur. at Antioch Baptist Cem), of the following Goolsby's also buried at Antioch Cemetery:

Also, possibly a Mary Goolsby who m. Asbury Thomas in 1877..."A Mrs Mary Thomas attested that Allen Goolsby of Waldo Co. is the same Allen Goolsby who enlisted in the confederate army in Carlton, Carlton (sic) Co, GA in May 1865 and that he served under Capt. Tom Harris until the close of the war."
Does anyone know anything about William W or if Mary, Annie and Allen were the children of Peter Goolsby in the 1860 Carroll Co. Ga census?:

I somehow got the phone number for Tacachale, the name of the facility that was once Florida Farm Colony. I had an uncle that lived there from the age of 6 till he died at age of 29 yrs. old. They were very helpful. After faxing a letter to their lawyer requesting info for purpose of family history, I recieved what I am pretty sure is a copy of my uncle's entire file, incuding the original of my uncle's photo taken the day after he went in. Let me put it this way; it's not an easy read. He was there from 1932-1955. Things were done a whole lot differently then than the way they would be done now. Phone: (352)955-5580.

I have come across Joseph B. Mott (b. abt. 1865) who married Lucinda in 1890. They appear in the 1900 Census of Hillsborough Co., FL. Their daughters Ona & Nona who married brothers Preston and Norman Sanchez, respectively. These people lived and are buried in the Dover, FL area.

The Sanchezes came from the Judson area of Levy Co., FL.

Hope Elijah Mott married (~1876) ELiza Jane Cannon. They were the parents of my great grandmother Tishie Ann Mott (born ~1893). I went down to the area to try to locate graves but was unsuccessful. They lived in the old Fishbone area until Hope passed. Eliza Jane then married George W. Lord and they lived in the Eugene area. I was trying to find both Hope and Eliza's graves..was not sure if they were buried together or not.

Since you were in Gainesville you may have found what you needed but I can get you a little closer to his death date if you didn't. In Nov 1880 40 acres of land was sold from James to Edward Thwaite. Edward died intestate and the first mention of Keziah as a widow that I have found is on a document where Keziah is selling 10 of the 40 acres to her son, William B. Thwaite, dated 19 Aug 1887. She is listed as, "Kissiah Thwaite widow of Edward E. Thwaite." I'm still looking for the death date, too.

Do you have more info on what happened to Andrew Graddick and Martha Sampson? When or why they went to Florida; where exactly in Florida did they go? I am researching my grandmother, Leonora Cook (b:1877 in Winnsboro, SC). It is possible that she married her cousin, Preston Sampson (b:1877 in Madison, Florida). This theory is a long shot, but I am exploring all possibilities.

Hi there,

I am interested in Cook and Webb surnames. Leonora Cook (b:1877 in Winnsboro, SC) and her brother, Joe Howard Cook (b:1880 in Fairfield Co., SC).

Their parents, according to Joe Howard's death certificate, were Jim Cook and Elizabeth Webb of Fairfield Co., SC.

I think that Leonora and Joe Howard may have been orphans, and that they ended up in Georgia in the late 1880s - near 1900. Both settled in Jacksonville, Florida.

That is all that I know about them. I have a photo of Leonora and she looks as if she may have had at least one caucasian parent.

Have you searched the deed records at http://www.alachuaclerk.org/Archive/default.cfm? You may be able to trace what happened to the church that way. It would not assume a black ME church would have become AME.

Look for records on the ME district conferences of that era. They should detail what happened to the church. I would also check other Methodist conference records - AME, CME, UM, etc, and some lesser known African American methodist denominations such as UME, RUME, RMUE, etc.

Also, I would call the oldest African American methodist church in the area, and try to make contact with the historian or eldest members to see what they may know.

Dave, Most of the Halls buried at the Saluda/Orange Heights cemetery are descendants of Cyrus Kinyan Hall and his wife Mary Ann Hutcheson/Hutchinson. Cyrus was born in 1820 in Emanuel Co Ga, and is a son of Juniper Hall Sr and Martha Thigpen. The two Nathan Halls are not his descendants, but I wonder if they may have been related somehow. Have you found any further information on your Halls?

Sorry for the delayed response. I have been traveling.? I haven't done alot of
Sampson research. I have noticed?while researching my florida relatives many
enighboring familes seem to have migrated from SC prior to 1900. Perhaps farming
was better, more varied than SC. I dont know why. Martha I?believe came with her
husb Andrew who I believe was from Richland Columbia SC. They settled in the
Alachua and Putnam Cty area of N. East FL. There are other SC Sampsons in Fl in
the 1880 and other census. Unfortunately I can document Andrew and Martha in
deed and census records but cant find a death certificate for either one. Any
other SC names you are researching?
