I suggest you try the newspaper databases. Chronicling America is a free site through the Library of Congress. They have several District of Columbia newspaper titles scanned and indexed.

Check with your local library regarding databases to which they subscribe. Most libraries subscribe to GenealogyBank or NewspaperArchive. Both of these databases possess District of Columbia newspapers. You can usually access them from home using your library card number and password to sign in.
