Hello: I had a look at the census records, and found John in 1880, 1900, and 1910. In 1880 he was born in DC, in 1900 he was born in Virginia, and in 1910 he was born in Mass. His wife turns up in 1920 as a widow, living with Florence in Bennington VT, so he died sometime between 1910 and 1920. Florence listed her father's birthplace as Virginia in 1920, though in other census records her father's birthplace was just copied from his line on the census.
