I`m not related to this family, just a "lookup volunteer" The Folk family is on the 1900 census in Elk Lick, Somerset Co., PA. Barbara is widowed & has three Folk children with her, Rella E., 4, William E., 3 & Ernest C.,1. She was probably expecting the twins when the census was taken. In 1910 Barbara & Wilson D. Shoemaker are in Elk Lick with their two children & the five Folk children. The census says they have been married for 2 years.

Thank you for responding. It looks like we are talking about the same people. If I'm right then your information has been a great help. My father (son of Myrtle Mae) tells me that he remembers BOTH "Bowman" and "Reckner" last names being associated with his grandmother whom he calls "Betty". I'm guessing this comes from her middle name. He also says Betty was married to a man named Folk before marring Shoemaker. Rella, Eugene, Cecile and the twins, Albert and Edith, were all children of Mr Folk. Rella, the oldest from the folk line is not listed in the census because she was married and gone by 1920. Grandma (Myrtle Mae) was the first Shoemaker. Dad says this is also the reason grandma disowned them. I remember her talking about her half brothers and sisters in passing. If the Folk line concurs with your research then we must have the right lineage?

The 1920 census of Kent Co., Delaware shows a Wilson D . Shoemaker, 43, b. PA., a truck farmer. Wife is Barbora, 48, b. MD. Children are:
Eugene 22

Daniel W 6

all except the two youngest children (b. DE.) were born in PA.

I'm looking for any information on Wilson Daniel Shoemaker. He married Barbora E Bowman, they had at least 2 children. Eugene and Myrtle Mae. Myrtle Mae is my Grandmother. She married George Daniel Charles Parker I (my grandfather). Granddad died in Smyrna De in 1984 Grandmom followed him there in 1999. Grandmom didn't like to talk about the family history so a lot has been lost. I'm not even sure she didn't have any other siblings. She only ever talked about Uncle Eugene whom I met once in the 1980's. Any info I can get about Wilson and Barbora will be hel, but that doesn't really mean there wasn't others that she "disowned". Which is something she did frequently. I beliee that the "shockly's" (prolly spelled ti wrong) are related somehow but I'm not sure of that either. Any info at all will be very helpful.

Sarah Dill / Samuel White Delaware

I'm looking for information about Sarah Dill who married Samuel White on January 1, 1795 in Kent, Co. Delaware. I believe her and Samuel moved to Maryland then ended up in Philadelphia, PA. I believe Samuel White was born in 1772 in Delaware.
Specifically I'm looking for information on the names of Sarah and Samuel's children and the names of Sarah Dill's parents. Any help you you provide would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks, I forgot to mention that another source I found said that Lookerman was called the Horsehead Road. This was in 1824 (can pull up the reference if you want) Lookerman runs into several roads, so it was confusing. I'm pretty sure that the place called Horsehead is what is now the Tappahanna Drain or Ditch, because a deed record states that the tract in question is "bounded by Joseph Pennock, Obediah Voshel, main Horsehead or Tappahannah Drain, the MD survey called Spicy Grove, Horse Head Road and land late of Hugh Durborow ..." (Kent Co.,Delaware Land Records, Vol. 11, 1776-1783, p. 44)

Old Road to Horsehead

I hope I haven't posted this question before. I'm trying to find the location of Horsehead and the Road to Horsehead, which is mentioned in deed records of the 18th century for Murderkill Hundred for Flowers and Goodwin. The Dover Archives wrote this to me:
"unfortunately no reference was found in our search for your request. You can do an *internet* search for place names in Delaware to see if something comes up."
I've already exhausted every known Google search,and found one reference to Horsehead Road as being the road to Westville. Can anyone verify this? Does "Horsehead" refer to Tappahanna Creek or Ditch?

My great grandfather (John Patterson Stubbs) was your great grandfather Jennete B. Stubbs's half brother. They had different mothers but shared the same father--William Stubbs. Martha Clarke, who was Williams' first wife must've died between 1883-1890. She is your g.g. grandmother. William then married my g.g. grandmother Marcia Thompson in 1890.

Yes, the cemetry still exists, although it's not really in Cheswold. It's on Messina Hill Road at the intersection with Moorton Road. Messina Hill Road is between Smyrna and Cheswold, just south of Garrison's Lake. The church, established in 1853, was demolished some time ago.
It is well cared for, surrounded by a fence, and there are current burials.
The graves were inventoried for Dill's Kent County, Delaware Cemetery Records, Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone.

I do have a copy of the will of George Soward, father of Susannah Soward Shahan, and can provide you with a copy if you don't already have it. As you may know, the name is found under various spellings in the colonial period. These include Soward, Seward, Seaward, Saward, Sowerd, and others. I descend from Thomas Soward/Seward (ca. 1710-1777), a brother of your George. They were of the third generation of the family in America. William Zadoc was the son of William James Onley and Harriet A. Selby. He married Evalene Bunting on 12 October 1892 in Frankford, Sussex, Delaware.

W. A.[sic] Onley, Well Known R. R. Man, Dies
"Laurel, Del.--April 4.---William Z. Onley, 59 years, died at his home here yesterday morning from a complication of diseases brought on by a nervous breakdown while directing the running of trains on the Delaware Railroad. He was one of the best-known railroad men in the State. He entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad forty-two years ago as a telegraph dispatcher. While holding the position his nerves broke down. For the last two years he had been in charge of the Pennsylvania Railroad passenger station here.
He is survived by a widow and three children, a son, Lieutenant Baynard Onley, of the U. S. Marines, now serving in South America, and two daughters, Mrs. Norman S. Hoffecker and Miss Evelyn Onley, of Laurel. Funeral services will be held here at 7:30 tonight with burial in Smyrna tomorrow afternoon."

Laurel, Del. April 6--The funeral of William Z. Only, a life-long employee of the Pennsylvania railroad was held from the home in North Laurel, Monday night, with Rev. E. P. Thomas, pastor of Centenary M.E. Church officiating. Burial was in Smyrna, Tuesday, where the deceased had lived until about two years ago, when he transferred here as Passenger Agent of the local station. He had been in the employ of the railroad for the past forty-two years.

"Mrs. Evaline B. Onley
Laurel, April 10--(Special).--Mrs. Evaline B. Onley, 78, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Norman S. Hoffecker, here, Sunday morning following a long illness. She was the widow of William Z. Onley.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Windsor Funeral Home, with The Rev. David W. Baker, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna, Del.
Mrs. Onley is survived by three children: Mrs. Norman S. Hoffecker and Col. W. B. Onley, both of Laurel, and Mrs. Evelyn Slaughter of Fort Amador, Panama Canal Zone. There are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren."

Col. W. Baynard Onley
Laurel--Col. W. Baynard Onley, 76, of 140 Delaware Ave., Laurel, died Thursday in Beebe Hospital, Lewes, after a long illness.

Col. Onley was born in Clayton, and had been a resident of Laural since 1947. He was a 1920 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, served in the first and second world wars and retired in 1946 from Parris Islanad, S.C., after 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a 50-year-member of Potomoc Lodge 5, AF&AM, Washington, D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alma Owens Onley; two sons, Lt.Col.(ret) William B.,Jr., of Owensboro, Ky., and Donald O., of Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Klauber, of Greenwood, S.C., and Mrs. Alma Lynch of Snow Hill, MD.; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn O. Slaughter of El Paso, TX.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Military graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 2, in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. There will be no viewing."

Baynard was the son of William Zadoc Onley and Evalene Bunting. Married Alma Gallaher Owens on 6 June 1919, at Barrett's Chapel, Annapolis, Anne Arundel, Maryland

Am looking for info on an Edward Carter. Edward was married twice, first to Ann Whitaker, a daughter of Henry Whitaker.
Edward married secondly Mary Broadway, Edward died abt 1789 and his widow married Joseph Dawson.
I am interested in the children of Edwards first marriage I have a daughter Mary Ann Carter who married Charles Case in 1804 in Kent County. Would like to find the names and any info on Edward and Ann's other children..
