Rene Cossitt
According to "Tempest in a Small Town," a history of Granby CT (USA), Rene Cossitt came to Simsbury, CT after marrying Ruth Porter at Farmington CT in 1719, and "Born into French nobility in 1690, he had been educated at the University of Paris, and then Oxford. Family traditions differ on how he got to America, but somehow, in spite of his noble blood and Roman Catholicism, he ended up in Middletown CT after Queen Anne's war, where he taught school prior to his marriage."
Is it possible to access the enrollment records of the University of Paris in the period 1700 to 1710? Or to determine where the surname "Cossitt" might originate?
A check of records of Oxford Univ. in England revealed no Rene Cossitt in the early 1700's.
