Asa Packer (1805-1879) of Mystic, CT went to PA as a lad. He later founded the Lehigh Valley Railroad and became one of the 10 richest men in America. His son, Robert A.(1842-1883), on visiting CT, entered into a marriage his family considered inappropriate and from which they subsequently extracated him while he visited Europe. He later made a 'more appropriate marriage' and had an adopted daughter.

I am trying to learn the details of his first marriage (ca. 1860)and to find out if the "adopted daughter" Gertude was a product of it. Any information, including directions on how to go about this search, would be appreciated. E-mail: SueCunning@aol.com.
