I have recently found information regarding Josiah and his family. It appears that Josiah Blackman was b. 9 Apr 1764 in Lebanon, New London, CT. He was the son of Samuel Blackman and Mehitable Long (spelling of mother's name is not clear). Samuel Blackman appears to have also been born in CT on 23 Nov 1736 in Hebron, Tolland County, and was the son of Abraham Blackman and Elizabeth Whitaker. According to what I have found Abraham was born 11 Jul 1705 in Rhode Island and was the son of Joseph Blackman b. 27 Jun 1661 in Dorchester, MA.

I am trying to find any information on this family. I have found census records and what is available on www.familysearch.org and ancestry.com. I am hoping to find records located in CT that shows that they really were in that area in the 1700's. There is very little information about what is available in CT to someone from outside the area...so if there is anyone who can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. I would like to try to find birth records, marriage records and it would be really great to find any bible records..but I know I am asking way too much! Again, anything at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I looked for the surname in Caulkins HISTORY OF NEW LONDON, and couldn't find it. Joshua Hempstead in his DIARY has 2 entries for the name, but very generic, a reference to "BLACKMAN," and one for "Mrs. BLACKMAN."

This doesn't mean too much; both sources are more localized on the New LONDON, Groton area. Hope you find your information.
