Fatt family

Surnames: Fatt, Congdon, Taylor
Once again I will try to chip away at the brick wall surrounding the Fatt family. They resided in Colchester in the 1930's. John Fatt was born in Germany ca. 1810. Married a ____ Fedden. Had a son Henry b. 10/15/1837 Baden, Germany. Married Harriet Congdon of Lebanon 03/13/1870.
Children: Henry b. 1871, George b. 1873, John b. 1874, Nathan b. 1879 and Harriet b. 1883. Harriet married Charles Taylor. I have information on the Congdons andthe Taylors but the Fatt family materialized from nowhere and disappeared the same way. Will be forever grateful to whomever can break the mystery

Hi Mary
I have been digging into this as well, without much more success. I had narrowed down the choices of maiden name for Harriet Fatt to Congdon but had no info to verify. Do you have a source for this info you could share with me?

My research has shown coflicting reprots, one that Henry Fatt came from Wurttemberg, immigrated in 1860 according to an 1870 census. Much confusion around this.

Children:

Henry B. - died Nov 15, 1875, age 4 years and 5 months.
George William - died Nov 8, 1875, age 2 years 10 months
John H - born Sept 27, 1875, died May 1913

All are buried in Linwood Cemetery in Colchester, along with Father -
Henry Fatt - born Oct 15, 1837; died Oct 7, 1917

Henry's stone is about the most sadly plain, undecorated, lonely looking stone I have seen. It is set apart from the 3 children as if a spot were left for Harriet. Sadly, she is not there.

Daughter Harriet, now Harriet Taylor, is buried with Charles and many members of the immediate and extended family on the other end of Linwood Cemetery.

I find absolutely no record of Nathan Fatt or mother Harriet Fatt after the 1930 census.

Hope some of that helps. Would be happy to share any info I find, and to have any info you might have.

I am still looking for Charles Taylor's parents.

I am holding my breath that your last name connects you to Lee, Bill or Ethel. Am I correct ? I have the Taylor family Bible. Charles Taylor is a common name....to which Charles are you referring ? Please, conmtact me at my e-mail address...
mgeary1@earthlink.net.
Hattie (Harriett) Belle Fatt was my g.grandmother.Charles H. Taylor (who residied in Colchester until his death in 1985) was my grandfather). One of his sisters was Ethel Taylor Smith who also lived in Colchester. Is any of this in agreement with your research ? I have quite a bit of information on the Taylor family. The town historian of Colchester, Ct. Stanley Morroch, once told me there was also a sister of the Fatt boys who died as a young child. This I have not been able to substantiate.
Will gladly share coordinating information. There is also a Taylor descendant living in Stafford Springs, with who I am in contact.

Hi Mary

Ethel (Taylor) Smith was my great-grandmother. I never knew her, as she died before I was born. Her husband, Thomas Smith, is my great-grandfather, of whom I have very fond memories as a child.

Charles H. Taylor I did not know (or at least do not remember). He would be my great-great-uncle. His Father, Charles A Taylor would be my great-great-grandfather - husband of Hattie B. (Fatt) Taylor. It is his parents that I am trying to determine still.

I am curious if the Taylor family bible you have has pages inserted regarding Henry Fatt? I recall being told about a family bible which had information about a german ancestor, which had been stuck into the existing bible.

I will be sending you an email as well.

I wonder if your mystery Fatt ancestors, ie John born around 1810 and his son Henry born 15 October 1837 in Baden Germany, have anything to do with Thomas William Fatt, baptised at St Andrew Holborn on 13 September 1793.

Thomas William Fatt worked for the Bank of England in 1810, as did his father and his uncle, but by 1817 TWF had 'got into debt and fled to the continent'. He had brothers named John and Henry, and his cousin Ann Fatt married a German in 1820.

All the details of Thomas William Fatt, his family and his forebears, are contained in my book 'Pierssene, a Huguenot Family of London', details of which are on my website www.louisewilson.com.au

Hope this helps.
