Me, again, I found my folder (with one paper) but what I have of what you have told me, I guess. I found a Florence Moran, the husband, I believe, and wife Johanna, unless I and they really misread it and florence is the wife with, perhaps, James the husband. They live on vine St, near "my" Currans, in the 1880 New Haven census.

Hi, thank you for replying - Ancestry notified me this time. I believe I have found the marriage of Mary Grady and Bartholomew Curran in Wales, also the birth of their first child, Mary. I am currently trying to trace Bartholomew Curran in New Haven via the city directories. he lived in the Oak St area - by the way Oak St has be ome the Oak St connector. that side of my Irish family lived in this area. ( The Hickey side lived on the other side of town in the Hamilton St area, also Summer St or Place - also not there any longer. I am trying to find when Mary Curran died or her sister Ellen Leary in hopes of their death certificates giving their mother's maiden name ( am I repeating myself?). I am a member of CTIAH and they have done searches for me. who are your New Haven ancestors? Again, I fear I have know this in the past - my apologies! I did find a marriage for John O'Cready to Bridget Moran this am in irishgenealogy. Can't decide whether or not this is what I am looking for?

Hi, In New Haven the death cert will give the parents names if the person who identifies or knows the decedent knows them. They do want to know the death of death to get you a death cert. There is an area of New Haven where most of the Irish lived, I say most because my gr-grandmother didn't live there. If they came to NH after Wales it may not have been until the late 1800's or early 1900's at which time they started putting where they were from and who they were coming to see on the passenger lists. That can be a huge help. Do you have any idea of the years?

Do you know of a family member that lived in New Haven, CT? The best way is to use the City Directories to follow someone backwards until you can find when they came over.

I looked through the Wales Census and their are a couple of Leary's that seem to fit over the years. The ages don't quite line up but back then they didn't care about birthdays or keep track of them like we do now. It maybe that one of them is the son of John and Ellen Leary.
I searched all of what is online in Ireland for children of John Leary and Ellen Grady and didn't come up with 1. That means all of their children were born in Wales or they were born in Kerry or other parts of Ireland, not online. Kerry and Southern Dublin are not online and there are others.
The CT Irish History Center does searches for a fee, or you can make an Appt and go there and they will help you. They are excellent and their knowledge of New Haven is amazing.

boy, I thought Ancestry notified me when some one replied to my post. so it has been ages and I am still pursuing this. I have found that Bartholomew Curran married a Mary Grady in 1868 in Glamorgan, Wales, and they had one child Mary there. I believe that she was born in Kerry, possibly in the area of Kilorglin, but that is pretty shaky. Now what I really want is her mother's maiden name as I have two possibilities: Shea or Moran. I am trying to find out when Mary died (in New Haven, CT) to see if her death cert gives her mother's maiden name - a long shot, I know.

Mary had a sister, Ellen who married a John Leary also in Wales and also moved to New Haven. so I am seeking her death cert but she died early enough I may not get her parents names?

It gets even more interesting. Michael's first name is misspelled as "Micheal" in both the 1930 and 1940 federal censuses. Apparently he married for a second time around 1925. He married a Mary McDonald, who was a native of Ireland. They took up residence in their own home at Westwood Avenue in Waterbury, CT. Michael became owner of a bakery on East Main Street in Waterbury in 1927 when Thomas Kelly sold all of his businesses at that time. I figure that Michael was a nephew of Thomas because he's not mentioned as a brother in Thomas Kelly's 1931 obituary. He was thiry years younger than Thomas. Michael died on 11 May 1969 at age 97.

Thanks again, Jane, for sharing that Thomas Kelly story about testing cattle for TB. It reminded me about how easily serious diseases could be transmitted to humans from cows before milk was pasteurized. "Kelly the Baker" was certainly a very shrewd businessman and an advocate for more governmental economic relief for farmers.
-Dave

That is interesting that they are listed as partners. Maybe they were brothers. I don't understand why Michael never purchased a home. On the 1920 census it lists Nellie Quigley as head of house. That had me thinking that her mother left the house to her because her sister Elizabeth had died.
If I come across anything else I will send it along.
j

Hi, I found Kelly Quigley records in the 1910 and 1920 census. You probably know about those records. The only way to find a marriage record for that time period is go to the State Library and go through that combination. You could also try a Family History Center. I did searches on all the historical newspapers and the Hartford Courant and found one article about Thomas Kelly. If you want to send me your email address I will email it to you. It is a PDF and I can't attach it here.

Hi, I found a birth record for Nellie Johnson daughter of Mary Grant and Joseph Johnson from North Adams MA - on June 30, 1906. Both the 1910 and the 1920 census list Massachusetts as her birthplace. The 1920 census list her as a step-daughter of Roland Williams and it lists her and her brother Roland as Mulatto. Both her mother and father are listed as B for Black in the 1910 census. Do you know if their was an inter-racial marriage? You have the same problem I do in that there are so many people with your family name it is hard to find the correct ones.

Hi I did a search of Isaac Foote at the Godfrey Library in Middletown, CT. A lot of hits came up, mainly for 19th century newspapers, you might want to try Newsbank or even ancestry.com to see what comes up. Many local and state libraries have access to Historical Newspapers via remote access using ICONN or ProQuest. It shouldn't be hard since you have birth and death dates.

Good luck, it sounds interesting, jane

What are you looking for help doing? Her family is listed in the 1910 census - her mother was Mary,, not husband listed but she isn't listed as a widow. The 1910 census lists how many children women had and how many are living at the point in time. Mary is listed as having 6 children and all living. William, Louisa, Hattie, Joseph, Washburn and Nellie. You should be able to follow the censuses to find out who is in the siblings families. I don't know if this was much help.

Hi, I have some free searches on the IFHF site so I did some searches to see if I could find the marriage information. There are a lot of Mary Grady's in all counties in Ireland. I found a marriage between both Mary Grady and Matthew Curran in 1864 and one in 1868 for a Mary Grady and Bartholomew Curran. I discovered the files aren't in date order like they should be so I may not have found all the marriages possible. Both marriages were in County Galway. To find Mary's Grady's maiden name you would need to find her birth records. If you know the county it makes it easier. Good luck

Kiliean van Rensselaer, they were born the same year and buried in the same cemetery.
The only info I have on Isaac is on his memorial
Anything additional will be quite helpful
Would anyone have a specific marriage date and exact dates of death for Michael F Kelly and Elizabeth Quigley? Michael and Elizabeth met while both were employed by Thomas Kelly, a renown baker in the greater Waterbury, CT area. They were married sometime between 1905 and 1906. They made their residence at Pleasant Street in Waterbury, CT. Elizabeth Quigley Kelly died sometime between late 1917 and early 1920. Michael F Kelly died around 1925.

I am especially interested in learning about Michael F Kelly's relationship to Thomas Kelly. There were other Kellys , who were employed by Thomas Kelly. I'm assuming that they were his nieces and nephews.

I would not suggest a 2nd wife after Elizabeth. I was just wondering if it were possible SHE was his 2nd wife. Not a stretch at all for her to be mother of all children. Just didn't want to close all possibilities just yet. Could be he was born elsewhere, which is the reason he's hard to locate earlier, not to mention, William Clark(e) isn't exactly a UNIQUE name...

Jared
This probably won't help you track down where he was interred but Leon's father's 1903 obituary says that Horace L. Johnson was born in Seymour, CT and that they were residents of SEYMOUR right up until their move to Hartford in 1896. Horace's surviving kin are named, too.

By the way...Annie Johnson's 1914 death notice says she was born in Norfolk, CT and interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Names her parents, too.

If you haven't seen these death notices yet, I can post them here.

Can anyone tell me the best way to find a Connecticut death and burial record in cases where family Bible lists date-but not the town ? Can narrow the probability to 2 or 3 counties. Thanks for any help

The two attached obits may help you find some of your extended family. The Marvin H. Durante one, possibly a grandson of Lyman B. Rice, same lodge mentioned.

Hi
Although Harriet was not mentioned in the obit this appears to be close along the line of information I was given over the years. My grandmother had siblings (her bro had more of a caramel complexion and her sis was more fair skinned) that did attend her visitation service, unfortunate for me I don't remember their names. We were told that we have extended family in the New Haven Ct area.

A daughter named Harriet isn't mentioned in the obituary of the Lyman B. Rice who died in 1967 (see the attached). The obit names his other children, though.
