Hi!
I appreciate any help you can give me. His name was Hebert Montague Smith he was born in Vermont 1870. His second wife's name was Mabel LeRoux. He appears in the 1920 census w/Mabel in Waterford, CT. By 1930 Mabel is a widow in New Haven. Their son Montague was born in Waterford. I cannot find a marriage or a death for Hebert or Mabel's first husband, John Kidney/Leadbeater. He changed his name from Kidney to Leadbeater somewhere along the way. Mabel had 10 children, the last one was Montague, and I cannot find out what happened to 8 of them. I had a lead on 1 child that doesn't appear in any of the censuses. His name was Courtland James Leadbeater. He officially changed his name in the 1930's and appears in Florida as Curtlan and Curtland James Russell. Was he adopted? Just given away? Family stories has Mabel giving up her girls because she didn't like them and kept the boys. But the boys are also missing except Curtland and Montague. She and Montague moved to Maine and both died there.
Again, Thank you,
Carol Blaisdell
