I am stuck on one of my ancestors in Connecticut by the name of NATHANIEL BAILEY. He lived and died in the East Haven-North Haven-Fair Haven-Foxen area of New Haven County between 1805-1870. He appears to have been a farmer in the area and is buried at the Montowese Cemetery along with his wife, DESIRE ROBINSON BAILEY and several descendents. I have found a marriage notice for him stating that he came from the 'Chatham' area around Haddam-Higginum. I would like to locate a death certificate for him if possible but am not sure which township might have the records. They are not in the city of New Haven bureau of vital stats nor have I been able to locate one at the Hartford Library...which does not mean to say that it is not there..only that I was not able to locate one. I have visited the Montowese Cemetery and have photos of the head stones for some of my BAILEY ancestors, however, apparently the stones for Nathaniel and Desire (and one daughter) are no longer visible, they having fallen over many years ago and no one re-set them so now they are buried under the dirt. My interest is in trying to determine his parentage, and realize that a death certificate may not assist in this endeavor but it is worth a try. Anyone with a suggestion or a willingness to assist will be greatly appreciated.
