Does anyone have access to the archives of the newspaper for Middletown or Portland and can look up a story about an out-of-town visit? In The Brooklyn Eagle on August 16, 1885, there is a society note that Miss Lillie Pierce would be visiting in Portland, Connecticut until September. I would assume a corresponding story would be printed in the local paper. Miss Lillie Pierce was Mary Elizabeth Pearce of Brooklyn, New York, my greatgrandmother. I believe she was visiting her future in-laws, the Shaws.
