My ancestor, Samuel Wheaton, stated on his Civil War papers that he was born in Litchfield, CT (whether this was the town or the county is not specified). I confirmed his parents were Ezek H. and Amaryllis Wheaton through the will Ezek wrote. I only have his birth date as about 1818. His younger siblings (Joel B. and Harriet Amanda) were born in New York (1822 & 1831) so the family must have moved after Samuel's birth. By 1840's the family had moved to Jackson, MI.
We live in South Dakota, but will be traveling to CT this fall to see husband's family. We could stop in Litchfield, CT. I will call the Historical Society there, but has anyone else had luck going to the churches, too, to look at their records? I know they were protestant, but not sure what denomination.
