I have microfilms on Bristol Vital Records

I have two microfilms from the LDS Church/Family History Center on Bristol Vital Records if there is something anyone needs to have looked up. The dates on film are:
Marriages - 1820-1841
Births & Deaths - 1791-1947
Marriages 1841- 1854
Births, Deaths, Marriages - 1847-1871
Births - 1871-1892
Births - 1892-1897
Marriages & Deaths - 1871-1898
Births, Marriages, Deaths - 1898-1903

These are not the actual certificates microfilmed, but rather the vital registry books. They do have a lot of helpful information though.

I have looked quickly through both these films and found a lot of valuable information. I go to the Family History Center at least once a week and will be reviewing these films again more thoroughly, so if you need a look up of an event that happened during any of the dates above, please email me.
This is for free, I am just trying to be helpful with the materials I have as others have been helpful in my searches.

I just found your message and hope that you are still doing lookups for Bristol, CT.
I just recently found out, which I hope is correct, that my third greatgrandmother and her sister were born in Bristol, CT.
The following is all the info that I have.
Harriet Tyler born about 1810, married Alvah Bronson/Brunson, date and place unknown.
Elizabeth Tyler born about 1812, married Levi Knapp, date and place unknown.
I have info on them starting about 1840, but nothing before that.
I also don't know the names of Harriet and Elizabeth's parents.
Hopefully you can find some info that would help me in my research of my ancestors.
Thank you.
Sue

Deborah,

Do you still have access to the FHL films for Bristol Vitals? (Births & Deaths - 1791-1947)

I am looking for birth date of Zenas Smith (ggggrandfather) s/o Grove Smith and Rebecca Tobyne. (various spellings). I've been told Zenas was born in Burlington, CT bet 1796-1799 although I've not found him in the Barbour Collection. Many Burlington vitals for 1785-1805 are recorded in Bristol records and Farmington records prior to 1785.

Siblings pos. b: Burlington/Bristol - David H b: abt 1803, Aaron b: bet 1800-1805 and m: 8 Sept 1825, Sophronia b: bet 1803-1809, George Willis b: abt 28 Apr 1807, Allen b: abt 1809.

Thanking you in advance and I appreciate any info you might have. I find myself sharing and helping others in their quest for a missing link too.

Hi, Joyce
Yes, I do still have access to the films. I will search the films to see what I can find. I'll get back to you by the middle of May to let you know if I found anything or not.

Hi, Joyce.
I have not finished my Bristol film search for Zenas Smith or his wife and children. I found several Smiths who may be descendents or relatives - or not. Here's the information, I hope down the road it may come in handy:

Bernard Smith born in New York, 1848 or 1849, married Johanna Hayes born in Ireland, 1851 or 1852. Daughter Ellen Smith born in Bristol, CT on January 14, 1893, she was the 7th child born to Johanna Hayes (presumably Bernard Smith too). Bernard was 45 and working as a blacksmith & Johanna was 42 at the time of Ellen’s birth. They resided in Bristol.

Herman F. Smith born in Meriden, CT, 1866 or 1867, married Julia E. Baldwin, born in Wallingford, CT, 1864 or 1865. Son Edward H. Smith born in Bristol, CT on April 24, 1894. He was the second child born to Julia. Herman was 27 & Julia was 29 at the time of Edward’s birth.

Sam Smith born in Bristol, CT, 1853 or 1854, married Sarah Baldwin born in Pequanuck (?), 1858 or 1859. Their first child, a son, was born stillborn on July 20, 1894, in Bristol. He was not. Sam was 40 and a factory hand & Sarah was 35 at the time of the birth.

Marshall Smith born in Wallingford, CT, 1872 or 1873, married Anna J. Funck, born in Bristol, CT, 1874 or 1875. Their fist child, a son, was born stillborn on March 20, 1895 in Bristol. He was not named. Marshall was 22 and a machinist & Anna was 24 at the time of birth. Their second child, a daughter Rachel S. Smith, was born on June 21, 1896 in Bristol. (on the record of baby boy Smith’s birth, Marshall’s middle initial is an R., but on Rachel’s record his middle initial looks like an I or something not resembling an R.)

Ernest Smith born in Tolland, Massachusetts, 1855 or 1856, married Eva C. Rouse Warren born in Connecticut, 1867 or 1868. Their first child, son Edward Smith was born Aug. 30, 1895 in Bristol. Ernest was 39 and an engineer & Eva was 27 at the time of Edward’s birth. (the information was hand-written, Rouse may possibly be Ranse, hard to tell difference between the u’s & n’s). Second child, a daughter, Marjorie Smith was born May 19, 1897 in Bristol. Ernest was 41 & Eva was 29 at the time of Marjorie’s birth.

Thomas F Smith born in New York City, NY, 1874 or 1875, married Annie Blessington born in Southington, CT, 1870 or 1871. First child, Bernard Thomas Smith was born Dec. 19, 1896 in Bristol. Thomas was 21 and a blacksmith & Annie was 25 at the time of Bernard’s birth.

Timothy Smith born in Bristol, CT, 1871 or 1872, married A. Berthune born in Sunderland, England, 1873 or 1874. First child, son, Raymond B. Smith was born July 1, 1896 in Bristol. Timothy was 24 & his wife was 22 at the time of Raymond’s birth. (because of the hand-written records, I cannot verify Timothy’s wife’s name. It actually looks like Allen, I considered maybe her name was Berhune Allen, but none of the other records put a lastname first).

Bristol marriages, unfortunately no ages or parents were given:

Ezra Norton married Harriet Smith in Bristol, CT on Feb. 19, 1821; both resided in Bristol.

Leeisten Smith of Plymouth, MA married Electee McFhey of Bristol, in Bristol, CT on July 31, 1823. (hand-written records, cannot confirm spelling of names).

Simon C. Sweet of Farmington, CT married Janet Smith of Southington, CT in Bristol on Sept. 20, 1829.

Samuel B. Smith married Henrietta/Harriet M. Terry in Bristol, CT on May 13, 1830; both resided in Bristol. (hand-written record cannot comfirm wife’s actual name, Henrietta or Harriet is the closest I could come)

Persius Bunnell of Burlington, CT married Polly Smith of Bristol, CT in Bristol on Nov. 12, 1837. (hand-written record cannot confirm spelling of Persius’s last name).

Charles E. Smith married Sarah I. Peck in Bristol on Sept. 26, 1839. (Peck was a very affluent family in the Bristol area, their roots go way back)

Orren Smith married Amy Hopkins in Bristol, CT on July 30, 1843; both resided in New Haven, CT.

Edward Welton of Bristol, CT married Polly Smith of Waterbury, CT in Bristol on July 4, 1822.

Adolphus Bradley of Bristol, CT married Sarah Maria Smith of Mt. Washington, MA in Bristol on March 22m 1847.

Bishop Smith of Bristol, CT married Harriet Bradley of Plymouth, CT in Bristol on Sept. 15, 1847.

Hi Deb,
Thank you for all your searching. I know how painstaking this is and I greatly appreciate your time and effort. So far, no hits on your listing but possibly there will be somewhere down the long line.
There is the possibility that Zenas' birth is recorded in Burlington files although I've had no luck there. One of the many examples of the unknown where records end up with town/county boundry changes over the years.
The Sam Smith (3rd down on your list) was born in Poquonock, a little town between Windsor and Windsor Locks, CT. It took me a long time to learn how to spell and pronounce that Indian name.
Again Deb, many, many thanks for your search. Your efforts are a rewarding example of a dedicated genealogist. If I can help in your CT/MA search please don't hesitate to call on me.
Gratefully,
Joyce

Sue, Hi,
Seems we meet again online, I am still trying to pursue the same avenue as you are. This Alva/h bronson has been a stumbling block for me for years now. I have him married to Harriet U.Tyler as you do, People say the Bronson's go back to 1600's in CT. Burton B. Bronson has said he has found 2 Alva/h's in his research, Alvah sr being born Mar 15 1787 in Bristol,Hartford County CT, but has him married to Sarah "Sally" Tinker, has him dying in 1861 in Steuben County NY. Then he has an Alva Jr born 1822 in Saratoga County Ny and dying in Steuben County, NY but married to a Harriet Jeanette Wilkinson who died 1913 in Hornell NY. Any thoughts on this, there are similarities but can't nail anything down yet. Also had found out in my research that James M. Bronson son of my Alva was born in Bradford County PA, then later moved to Cherry Valley Ohio. There is a close proximity from NY to Bradford PA, then to Ohio, then back to Mercer County. It is a radius of closeness?? Have you found the story of the 5 Bronson brothers who set out from CT and went to Ohio to establish Columbia OH. I wish we could figure this Alva/Harriet thing out, I think it would help us both immensely in our research. Karla Bronson

Hi Karla
Good to hear from you! Alvah and Harriet are still my brickwalls!! I don't have much more info than before, but if it is ok, please send me your e-mail address and I will let you know what little I have found. Of course this info isn't anything about Alvah and Harriet's ancestors.
You can e-mail me anytime.
