I'm sort of at a roadblock right now with my family research, but I think I might have found light at the end of the tunnel.

I've been able to trace my Schofield family footsteps to one Isaac Scofield (abt. 1816-1881). He settled in Portland in the 1840's and started a family. However, I haven't been able to find anything else about him before that. I have a document that say he was born in East Hampton or Chatham but another researcher didn't find a birth record in either town. Then, I stumbled across the Barbour Collection Vital Records for Portland and I noticed that on the birth record of a child he is listed as Isaac Jr., which led me to think "his father must be Isaac Sr." So, onwards I search and I found two Isaac Scofield's that would be old enough to be his father. They were both from Stamford.

So, my question is this: is there anyone local to Stamford who could search town records for the birth(s) of any Isaac Scofield/Schofield/Schofell/Scovill/Scoville between 1814 and 1817? I would like to know the date of birth and the names of the parents if possible.

I might try to research in Chatham again just to be on the safe side, but I have a funny feeling he was born in Stamford and migrated to Portland maybe for work (he was a quarryman).
