Classification: Query
Surnames: LYON, MIDDLEBROOK, SEAY, BELDEN, BELTON
This is interesting, because I descend from Thomas LYON of Rye, through his sons John and Thomas. As you may know, Rye was begun by several Greenwich, CT families and the boundary line between NY and CT separates the towns of Greenwich, Fairfield County, CT and Rye, Westchester County, NY.
Within this group is the BELDEN family of Rye, Westchester Co. NY, tying into the Bos/Bosch/BUSH family of Cos Cob, Fairfield County, CT. The BUSH family were in Rye, prior to taking up the gristmill in Coscob.
So, it was a surprise to discover that my Betsy LYON, b. ca 1720, m. about 1747, Amelia Co. Virginia to Jesse SEAY, is called by some "Betsy BELTON LYON," with no explanation regarding the middle name.
I have never found the absolute link between the two LYON lines.
But it's made me curious.
