Wm. H. Iliff was in Breckenridge, Summit Co, CO in 1880 as a stock dealer and miner. Some say he died on Jun 7, 1902 at Breckenridge. I'm skeptical since I didn't find him on the 1900 Census, so may have died before then.

Can some one check local newpapers for a death notice/obit or at the courthouse for the above date?

Thank you.

I found articles in 1906 newspapers in Oakland CA & Philadelphia PA on a relative, J N (Jasper N) Strepey. They tell about his marriage proposal to Lillian Rosella Kellar of Reading PA. She accepted although she had never met J N. She was a shoe salesperson & had inherited money from her uncle,Henry Kellar, a silver miner in Denver CO. J N was wealthy in his own right, owning stock in gold mines & land in TX. He lived in Breckenridge at the time of the proposal but his family has been all over CO in at least 12 counties. Did Lillian ever marry J N? What ever happened to them? I found a J N Strepey in Arkansas in 1910, listed as a widower, but can't be sure it's him. Can't find a Lillian Kellar or Lillian Strepey after the 1906 article.

Cheryl Kerschner

Looking for any information on the following individual:

William H. Milner
born 24 Apr 1840, possibly Ontario, Canada
died 8 May 1864. He is buried in an isolated grave in the French Gulch area of Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado. (Approx .3 miles past ghost town of Lincoln.)

I know already that on 25 Mar 1864, he departed the town of Black Hawk in Gilpin County. Less than 2 months later, he dies in Summit County.

The Denver paper has a potential match in their 22 Sep 1863 edtition, listing "H.Milner" has having mail at the post office.

His headstone appears to have been provided by the Greenlee & Co., Denver, Colo., based on the inscription of this company name in the bottom right corner.

Any information on his family, travels, death, the Greenlee company, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Please include links or sources if possible.

Thank you.

Hi,
I took a quick look at a couple of sources for Colorado.

No Erickson or Eriksson listed on the Historical Records search for the state (http://www.colorado.gov/dpa/doit/archives/hrd/index.htm).

You can contact the county at P.O. Box 68 Breckenridge 80424 or http://www.co.summit.co.us/. I have learned that it is better to call the county, vs email: 970.453.3470 (Clerk Recorder number).

A good source is the Summit Historical Society, though they do charge for services... http://www.summithistorical.org/

Many of their holdings are also in the card catalog for the Summit County Library system: http://summitcountylibraries.org/

You can also search through the Colorado Historic Newspapers online, www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org. I did a quick search here for "Erickson" in the Montezuma Mill Run paper (no dates) and got 25 hits. These are actual copies of paper images, so a neat resource to use.

Those are the first places I would look.

Best of luck... please post again if you need more local help. I am in Summit County, and am happy to assist.

Jen Baldwin
Ancestral Journeys

Year of birth, country of birth and immigration year is correct. Does anyone know where I can go to find things like his birthday, death certificate, mother´s/father´s name, maybe naturalization record ? Kind regards, Niklas

Trails to the Past has been working on compiling photos of Colorado cemeteries. Here is the link:
http://coloradogravestones.org/
Not all headstones have been documented yet, but for Frisco, the majority of the cemetery is done. Very small site. You can search for Summit county, then narrow down to Frisco.

I have been working on Summit genealogy sources for a couple months... although I don't have anything specific (yet) on the people you mentioned, there are several sources listed on our site for Summit County:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cosummtp/

See if anything there helps you. Let me know if there is something you would like to see added or anything further I can help you with. (Live in Summit county, so look ups can be done.)

There are no cemeteries in San Francisco unless he/she was military and then they would be buried at the Presidero. . All other bodies were moved out of SF a long time ago. Most went to various cemeteries in Daly City which is right below(South) of SF. Check those cemeteries. There are many. IF Jewish then they would be in the Jewish Cemetery. Just search Daly City Cemeteries CA> Hope this helps. You can always call them too once you have the numbers

Obit - Max Dercum

Max Dercum, co-founder of two of Summit County's 4 ski resorts, died Friday [September 30, 2011] just shy of his 99th birthday.
Dercum died at a retirement home in Evergreen [CO] where he lived, Jefferson County coroners confirmed. He apparently died of natural causes.
The champion skier, former forestry professor and visionary, along with his wife, Edna, was among a group of seven who started Arapahoe Basin in 1946. They were a driving force behind the founding of Keystone Resort in the early 1970s.
Remembered by friends as a bubbly, enthusiastic and spirited man, Dercum received his first pair of skis when he was 6 years old. He fell so in love with the sport that he would eventually moved to Colorado from Pennsylvania and become a founding father of the state's flourishing ski industry.
"Novody had a greater love of skiing than Max Dercum, " said Bill Bergman, Dercum's longtime friend and co-founder of Keystone. "And probably nobody knew more about technique and equipment."
Dercum was born October 2, 1912.
He learned to ski early in life by studying the simple instruction manual that came with his boards.
In 1932 he became one of the founding members of the ski team at Cornell University. He would later study and eventually become a professor of forestry at Penn State. It was there that he met Edna - the couple married in 1937 and - and formed a ski club and with it, his first makeshift ski are with cross-country trails, a jump and a small tow rope.
In 1941, Max and Edna moved to Colorado, planning to do the same thing on a bigger Scale. Five years later, with the end of World War II, they would begin their work at A-Basin.
During his life, Max Dercum worked as a lift operator, ski instructor and patroller. He skied well into his 80s and remained strong and alert up to within days of his death.
Dercum is survived by his two children, Rolf and Sunni, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and extended family. Edna, to whom he was married for 71 years, died in 2008 at the age of 94. Information on a service has not yet been released. The Denver Post, Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Does someone have time to search the marriage index for Colorado for me? I believe that the time frame would be approx 1914-1920

Thanks so much

Summit County was not in existence until 1861. So, I wonder if the County will have any records of before then? Maybe, but a lot of the early county records have been turned over to the Colorado State Archives in Denver. There is a Summit County Historical Society, there might be some help there.
You are talking about very early state history here. The records might not have recorded as you might think of in the East.
I did a quick check in the Historical newspapers 1859-1861 and came away with no hits for Ehpraim/Joshua Bartlett.
Good Hunting,
Frank

Looking for information on Solomon P. KEY, buried Valley Brook Cemetery

I would appreciate information concerning Solomon P. KEY, son of George KEY and his wife Rebecca MINTON/MINTUN. Solomon was born in Crawfordsville, Montgomery county, Indiana about 1837. His father had settled a claim in Louisa county, Iowa in 1836, raising crops there in 1836 and 1837, while wintering with his family in Indiana. In 1838, he sent for his wife and 10 children to join him in Iowa. Rebecca hired 10 men to help move the family and their livestock from Indiana to Iowa. Solomon was only about 1 year old when the family moved. His mother died in Iowa between 1856 and 1860. His father then left Iowa to visit Solomon's brother, Ambrose, in Texas, but never returned. The outbreak of the Civil War may have delayed his return, and it appears he died in Texas during 1861.

Solomon P. KEY enlisted in the Iowa 1st Cavalry "Hawkeye Rangers" in April 1861. He re-enlisted as a Corporal in Company F of the 19th Iowa Infantry in 1862, and served over 34 months with that unit. He requested a reduction in rank to Private, which was granted, but was later promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and then 1st Lieutenant. Four days prior to his discharge, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, although not all of his records (including his headstone) reflect that rank. Solomon was injured in the right thigh. He was also captured and spent some time as a prisoner-of-war. Three of Solomon's brothers also enlisted during the war, with his brother David being killed at Shiloh.

Solomon was mustered out at Mobile, Alabama, but accompanied his unit back to Iowa at the end of the war during the summer of 1865. In the winter of 1865-1866, he left Iowa for Tennessee, then Vicksburg, Mississippi. He eventually settled in Madison county, Mississippi in December 1868. He was appointed Justice of the Peace, but had no desire for the post, and gave up the duty as it interfered with his other business dealings. Solomon operated a dry goods store, as well as raised crops and livestock.

In 1875, Solomon was nominated for the position of Madison county sheriff on the Republican ticket. Again, he had no desire for the position, but was coerced by friends to accept the nomination. Before long, he was being threatened, and his business shot at by passing riders. At one point, he surrounded his home with 100 bales of cotton for protection.

In 1876, Solomon testified before members of the US Congress concerning the wide-spread election fraud which took place in the April 1876 Mississippi elections. I think Solomon probably uprooted about this time and came to Colorado. The only clue that I have concerning his death was that it occurred prior to his brother James Alvin Key, who died 17 September 1900. I have not found Solomon listed in the 1880 census, nor the 1890 veterans' census. For some reason, I have that he and his brother John H. Key both died prior to 1889, but don't recall the reason. Solomon was still single as of the 1870 census. I have not found any sign that a pension was paid in his name.

I would very much appreciate any information on his date of death or burial, or if by chance he was married. All I have now is that he was buried at Valley Brook Cemetery near Breckenridge, as found on a website listing burials of veterans.

I did a search at www.ColoradoHistoricNewspapers.org and found Charles H. Campbell in the Summit County Journal newspaper on 1907 Sep 28. There is a C.H. Campbell in other articles at this site. I couldn't found a Obituary on him, you might have better luck if you do a search or you might find other articles that will be helpful in finding his death and burial . I also find a Charles H. Campbell in the 1900 Summit Co. census it states he was born June 1855 in Canada. Let me know if you would like me to email the census to you. I think Charles H. Campbell is related to my GGG-grandfather Angus Campbell born in Canada between 1848-1853 and died in 1933. When ever I do research my Campbell family tree I always come across a Charles Campbell but can't make the connection. Angus lived in summit Co. around the same time as Charles. Do any of these names connect to your Charles?
Angus Campbell married Christina McMillin and their children are:
Christina b.abt. 1876
James b.abt. 1878
Minnie b. abt. 1881
Angus b. abt.1883
Effie b. abt.1886
Grover b. abt.1888

Thanks Jennifer

Jackie, I too have a relative who worked in the Wellington Mine in Breckenridge. Have you had any luck with employment records? My search is for Edward Narron, age 30 at the time he registered for the WWI draft. I am trying to find his wife's name.
