Ellifson, Caroline aged 75 burial/death date11/29/1906 Block 33 B 4 Red Butte Cemetery Aspen, CO

The photographer name was Drenkel and was located at 209 South Monarch, Aspen, Colorado. Aspen's early boom ended in 1893 with the "Silver Crash" when the Gold Standard was adopted to back the monetary system.

I don't know whether this will aid your quest, but wish you good luck with it.

Carol, you are wonderful! I think this just may be the Karen I am searching for but would like to try to find a little more proof. Our Minnesota Historical Society has filmed all old newspapers and was wondering if this has been done in Colorado. I would like to see if there is an obituary for this lady. It is puzzling to me that I was not able to find her in the 1900 census for Aspen - I searched every page! However, maybe she was living outside of the town at this time. I am doing this research for a good genealogy friend and she has always wondered what happened to her great grandmother. All she had was this picture of a lady taken in Aspen. So can you point me in the direction of where I could find additional information. Thank you so much for what you did find for me. It is much appreciated.
Marcia

I found the obit in the Aspen Times Democrat for Tuesday, November 27, 1906. Reads as follows: "Yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock, Coroner Brown and Undertaker Blakemore were notified of the death of Caroline Ellofson who passed away at her home in Riverside some time Saturday night. She was discovered dead in her home yesterday afternoon by a neighbor who went to see why she wasn't about. Mrs Ellofson was subject to epileptic fits and it is believed she died while in one of those fits. Mrs. Ellofson, better known as "Aunt Caroline" has been a familiar figure to our people for a number of years, and was quite an elderly woman. No arrangements can be made for the funeral until her daughter, Evelyn Frederickson of Lamberton, Minn., who has been notified of her mother's death, can be heard from. The remains are at the undertaking establishment of Thomas Blakemore."

Is this your lady?

By the way, Drenkel is buried at Red Butte Cemetery as well. His date of death was 4/20/1903. Maybe that will help date your photo.

Regards,

Carol

Do you know the name of the man DRENKEL buried in the cemetary? I have some photographs of his children that I am attempting to trace and it would certainly help to have his name. I also have information leading me to believe that his wife may have actually been the photographer rather than him.

Thanks for your help.
