Early Resident of Haxtun Passed Away in
CaliforniaFrank August
Starn, who lived in the Haxtun and
Fairfield communities in the early part of the century, passed away in Modesto,
California, August 22. Funeral services were held August 24 from the
Salas Funeral chapel with burial at the
Lakewood Memorial park at Modesto.
Mr. Starn carried mail out of Haxtun during the years 1913 and 1914, with a team and buggy and the route was made only every other day. He later moved to the
Fairfield community where he was engaged in farming. In 1920 the family moved to North
Platte,
Nebraska where they resided for nine years and from there went to Modesto,
California which had since been his home.
He was born in Sweden and was 75 years old on August 8. He was married to Lillie M. Peterson and to this union were born three children, Glenn, Ray and
Merle. Glenn preceded his father in death 30 years ago. Ray and
Earle are living in Modesto. He is also survived by five brothers,
Emil, Arthur and
Sherman, all of
Hughson,
California, Albert of Turlock and Charlie of Modesto; also three sisters, Mrs. Arnold
Johnson and Mrs. Claud
Baldwin of Turlock and Mrs. Otto
Swanson of Modesto. Another sister, Mrs. Fred Lundall passed away in 1949. Three grandchildren, Larry, Randy and Karen
Starn of Modesto, also survive him.
The deceased was a brother-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Peterson of the
Fairfield community.
