Wow, thanks so much Kathy. I think I confused you though.
Helene Christine Jacobson came over from Denmark. Her parents and siblings stayed in Denmark. I was hoping to find the aunt and uncle that supposedly ran a hotel in Durango. Helene came to work for them. Not knowing whether this aunt or uncle were related to her father (Jacobson), her step-father (Larsen) or her mother (Christensen) I threw out all three. It could have been the aunt who was related and then there would be an entirely different name than those three. But it would still in all probability be Danish.
Helene Christine Jacobson (that's the name she put on their marriage license which I obtained on line) married my grandfather--Thomas Henry Kerlin. However she was listed as Larsen on obits of her, and her daughters. This was what was confusing me, but a librarian in Toledo helped me understand that I could trust what the person herself listed. Her obit and the obits of her children were written by the children. She thinks that they got confused about her maiden name having probably seen a lot of mail over the years from the Larsens--her stepfather, mother, and probably half-siblings. She then suggested that I try to find something about her and her aunt and uncle during the perhaps 2-3 years she was here before she married.
So to sum up--the Larsens or Christensens or Jacobsons would have been the names of the aunt or uncle and not her husband. Thanks again for your sleuthing!!
